🌬️ Thrilled to announce that Ramboll has been awarded the contract for the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) services for the pioneering West of Orkney Windfarm offshore wind project developed by OWPL, a consortium of Corio Generation, TotalEnergies, and RIDG.   Following our successful Pre-FEED endeavours, Ramboll's expertise has been tapped once again to spearhead the development of FEED design services. During this phase, we will develop designs for up to 125 fixed-bottom #foundations with dual options - monopile and jacket. Our role is pivotal in providing comprehensive technical insights, including assessing steel quantities, identifying and mitigating risks to be as low as reasonably possible and preparing technical requirements. This data will empower the consortium to pinpoint the optimal foundation type for the subsequent phase of the project.   Our contribution extends beyond design, as we'll aid OWPL with identifying potential supply chain options for the fabrication of the fixed-bottom foundations and providing #CAPEX estimates for fabrication. Located about 30 km from Orkney’s west coast and 25 km from northern Sutherland, the West of Orkney Windfarm will operate in waters up to 70 meters deep. At the moment the turbines are being installed at the Racibórz wind farm, but let's rewind time and take a fascinating look behind the scenes of our Racibórz wind farm project in Poland: watch in awe as the foundation of a Nordex turbine, with a plinth height of 7 meters and continuous anchor bolts of 9.5 meters in length - currently the highest foundations in Europe - takes shape in less than 3 minutes 😮😍 Our project marks a significant stride towards a greener and cleaner world. Last week Engineering X hosted a workshop to discuss how to enhance safety at the end of life of offshore wind infrastructure. With the increasing investment in and expansion of renewable energy across the world, there must also be a stronger focus on how we approach its end of life to avoid harm to human, animal and ecosystem health. Experts from across the world met in London for two days of knowledge sharing, problem identification, and solution brainstorming. We were delighted to welcome participants from industry, academia, government and more to engage in interdisciplinary discussions on the topic. The three main themes for the workshop were technology and infrastructure, circularity, and regulation. We were lucky to listen to twelve presenters share their expertise ranging from blade recycling, lessons from oil and gas decommissioning, to biodiversity considerations for end of life. We extend a big thank you to all participants for their engagement and collaborative spirit throughout the workshop, and we want to especially thank Academy Chair in Emerging Technologies and Academy Fellow Professor Susan Gourvenec for chairing. The work on this topic is only just beginning and we look forward to further collaborations across disciplines, sectors, and countries to tackle the safety concerns of end of life of offshore wind infrastructure. Teesside’s carbon capture project gets planning approval Net Zero Teesside Power (NZT Power), a proposed full-scale integrated power and carbon capture project in #NorthYorkshire, has been granted planning #permission. The project on part of the former SSI #steelworks site in Redcar will comprise a new gas-fired power station with carbon capture technology. It also aims to #decarbonise a cluster of carbon-intensive businesses on #Teesside. Earlier this month, the #UKGovernment granted the project a development consent order following a recommendation from the Planning Inspectorate. The project is now conducting negotiations for support through the relevant business models to enable a final investment decision in September 2024 or before. NZT Power will be developed by bp, Eni, Equinor, Shell and TotalEnergies, with BP leading as #operator. #CO2 from the power station, as well as from a local industries on Teesside, will be captured through a common CO2 pipeline network and transported beneath the River Tees for storage at an offshore geological site under the North Sea. The construction of the onshore and offshore infrastructure needed to transport and store the captured CO2 will be overseen by the Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP), which is operated by BP. The project team has said that the power station could generate up to 860MW of low-carbon power, while up to 2M.t of CO2 per year will be captured at the plant and then transported and stored by the NEP in the Endurance aquifer in the southern #NorthSea. BP has engaged with various construction partners to progress the NZT Power project. AECOM has been part of the project development team from the outset. It has provided a range of services including preparation of the DCO application, preparing the environmental impact assessment, providing consultation support, and offering geotechnical and remediation advice. Costain Group PLC and Mott MacDonald were selected to design the new grid connection and pipeline for the NZT power station with carbon capture. They will also design the onshore CO2 gathering system #pipeline which crosses the river Tees. In late 2021, BP also selected two #engineering, #procurement and c#onstruction (EPC) consortiums to deliver a dual front end engineering design (FEED) package for the project. The Technip Energies and General Electric consortium, led by Technip Energies, was the first selected contractor group, with Shell as a subcontractor for the provision of the licenced Cansolv CO2 capture technology and Balfour Beatty plc as the nominated construction partner. The Keadby 3 project, a planned carbon capture power station in North Lincolnshire, will also connect to the shared infrastructure being developed by the East Coast Cluster of CCUS projects. It was granted development consent in December 2022.

🌍🔋 Reflecting on Our Journey: Developing a Hydro Power Plant Project Model 🔋🌍 As our team of eight is winding up on the production of our hydro power plant project model, I am full of achievement and gratefulness for what we have been through together. That journey has not only provided me with a deeper insight into hydroelectric energy but also shown me how much collective knowledge and teamwork can accomplish. 💡 Experience Each member came with individuality, nourishing discussions and decision-making sessions. We were able to approach issues from various perspectives because our diverse backgrounds ranged from electrical engineering to civil construction. It Is this cooperation that has enabled us to come up with an innovative comprehensive project model which is both innovative and practical. 📚 Knowledge Sharing Knowledge is strength; in our case, it was also the spark that ignited creativity. We took time to share research, best practices and lessons learned from other projects. This created an environment where ideas just flowed without any hindrance and as solutions developed naturally. Talking about topics such as water flow analysis, environmental impact assessment as well as sustainability strategies was intellectually arousing in addition to strengthening our collective commitment to responsibility. 🤝 Teamwork I cannot emphasize enough the role of teamwork in our success. We established a culture of trust and respect, where every voice was heard and each contribution valued. Our weekly brainstorming sessions turned into collaborative problem-solving workshops, allowing us to push our limits and explore innovative solutions. The synergy between us not only made the work more enjoyable but also significantly enhanced the quality of our project model. As we move towards presenting our hydro power plant project, I am excited about the potential impact we can make in advancing sustainable energy solutions. This experience has been a testament to what we can achieve when we leverage our collective knowledge and work together as a team. Thank you to my amazing teammates for your hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm. “Centrica knocks on Wood’s door for #hydrogenstorage project in North Sea” June 26, 2024, - Aida Čučuk “Engineering and consulting company Wood has been awarded a front-end engineering design (FEED) contract by energy company Centrica Energy Storage (CES) for the redevelopment of the UK’s Rough field in readiness for future hydrogen storage.” “The contract entails new #pipelines , a new unmanned installation, as well as #onshoreinjectionfacilities at the Easington #gasterminal .
