Congratulations to Jeremy Dean and his colleagues at riders&elephants for another impactful year of enhancing emotional self-awareness and the understanding of “emotional culture” in organizations around the world with R&E’s Emotional Culture Deck and other resources! Michael Shepherd, Managing Partner of The Shepherd Group, joins The5 to talk about Public Relations for Nonprofits.  Public Relations often gets overlooked by nonprofits as they focus on their mission, but building awareness of the brand is critical for both mission and donations.  Hear from Michael on critical points that a nonprofit should consider to grow the awareness of their nonprofit. Financially savvy advisor to the C-suite with extensive experience in branding and corporate communications. Unique value proposition: The ability to increase enterprise value through alignment of comms strategy with business goals. The increasing complexity of marketing communications has made it exceedingly difficult for internal marketing departments to stay on top of new and emerging platforms and technologies. Internal training programs can’t keep pace with the evolution of the marketing tech stack - particularly in the lower middle market. Second, More often than not, it’s not the core business of the company. People are dragged into areas that are not their core expertise. Using research and data-informed insights, I develop strategy and content that supports targeted business outcomes. I work with clients to identify key success metrics up front and utilize post-launch analytics to track results and refine messaging throughout the life of the campaign. The end result is better ROI - and accountability. The5 is a celebration of the work being done by nonprofit professionals, highlighting valuable tips and methods that nonprofits should be utilizing.  The5 is aptly named as NMBL Strategies celebrates our 5 year anniversary.  Host Eric Moraczewski leads guests on a journey of topics that are of deep importance to the guest and discusses how nonprofits and nonprofit leaders can benefit from the experience and expertise.

What a jam packed 2 days at the #CIPD #FestivalIOfWork. From dog therapy to in-depth chats about the current trends and challenges we're facing in the profession. I definitely arrived curious 🧐 and left inspired 💡 A few highlights from me: 📽 Alex Mahon did a fantastic talk about her career as a female CEO for Channel 4. 🧦 Socks are up for grabs! I saw so many stands offering free socks. Have socks officially become the new SWAG for 2024? 😴 We are all a victim of #burnout and we need to take a preventative approach as opposed to a reactive approach. What tools do we have to avoid this in the first place? 🛡 Is #Fearlessleadership a good thing? Be aware and be open to what is around you. We need to focus on creating safe communities were people feel comfortable to speak. 😯 Every workplace goes through a crisis, it's how we respond to them that defines us. Amanda Arrowsmith Chartered FCIPD did my favourite talk of the 2 days and equipped me with "The 4 C's"

I hope you all had a lucky St. Patrick’s Day this past weekend wearing your green! 🍀 A lesson in luck from Mort….the pot belly pig. I got this grand idea that Mort was going to help me with a St. Patrick’s Day celebration picture, but EJ (husband, realist, joy-sucker  and photographer) did not think Mort would cooperate.  And dang it, I hate when he is correct! I put the St. Patty bling on him and he instantly activated “rodeo pig”. You might ask, “what is a rodeo pig?”. Well, it is when the pig runs around as fast as they can while snorting and bucking—it is a sight for sure! So, you might be wondering how I ended up getting this adorable picture? EJ, trying not to bask in the fact that he was right, suggested a treat. In keeping with the St. Patrick’s day theme, he even suggested a green treat of a pear. I noticed that Mort has the same reaction as we do in the workplace when the right incentive is in place. Want a motivated team—find what motivates them. As soon as I had that treat, Mort did an immediate sit, and opened wide for the treat.   When we want more from our teams, or even a different output we need to think about if the right incentive is in place. If we are wanting creativity or ideas on a better process, why not have a contest? Everyone comes to the table with their new idea and whoever wins gets the “treat” plus bragging rights!
