🏗️🚧⚠️ Construction has begun on the I-10 Wild Horse Pass Corridor expansion project. If you travel between Chandler and Casa Grande, you will now notice cranes and other construction equipment at the Gila River bridges. Crews have started working on drilled shafts that will make up the concrete columns that will help support the new three-lane bridges that will replace the existing bridges. Last October Highfield Construction, with construction engineering support from Harbourside Engineering Consultants, undertook the installation of prestressed, concrete NEXT girders for all 3 spans of a new bridge in Rustico, PE. This clip of a video by Highfield https://bit.ly/3SjvbHW shows the center span girders (weighing approximately 112,000 lbs each) being set into place by via a tandem lift with 2 – Grove GMK 6400 (400 ton) mobile cranes with luffing jib boom configuration. The approach span girders were erected using a single crane, with the main boom configuration. The temporary bridge, shown in the video, keeps traffic flowing and avoids the need for a detour during the construction of the new bridge that will replace the previous bridge that was built in 1979. The new bridge will be wider with paved shoulders for cyclists and pedestrians and higher to provide more navigational clearance for boats sailing underneath it. Harbourside was responsible for developing the lift plans and crane pads required on each approach to support the cranes during the lift. Harbourside was also responsible to assess the existing structure (not shown in the video) to support a smaller crane for pile driving activities. Construction is expected to be complete in Spring 2024. #bridgeengineering #bridgedesign #infrastructure

SF Marina is playing an important role in the Femern Link tunnel development by supplying floating concrete dock pontoons for the project’s tugboat pier. The 215m pier is comprised of ten 20m x 10m SF1850 floating concrete pontoons and one 15m-long centre section with a 28° end. This allows the array to gently angle away from the stone breakwater for double-sided docking. Heavy-duty SF1850 series pontoons are designed to handle the rigors of commercial use. Virtually unsinkable, they offer approximately 970kg/m2 of buoyancy yet are extremely stable. Strong and buoyant SF Marina W400 Connectors deliver two 105 tonnes per joint of breaking strength. Internal corner pile guides allow the pier to maintain its 1m freeboard while 21 aluminum bull bollards provide ample tie up locations. Eight rescue ladders and three ring buoy/fire extinguisher pedestals help ensure worker safety. The concrete pontoons were made at SF Marina’s Wallhamn, Sweden facility and transported to the site by truck. The company has six precast manufacturing locations across the globe and a robust delivery network to keep construction schedules on time and logistics expenses low. Strengthening links between Scandinavia and Central Europe, the Femern Link tunnel is Denmark’s largest infrastructure project. It’s part of a growing green traffic corridor throughout Europe. The 11-mile tunnel will connect the Danish island of Lolland with the German island of Fehmarn, reducing travel time from 45 minutes by ferry to a mere ten minutes and seven by electric rail. Back in April, a fatal accident at the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel site cast a shadow over the project. But the project is on track. Recently, His Majesty King Frederik X of Denmark officially inaugurated the first tunnel element. Keep up to date with the latest industry news on Maritime Journal; https://lnkd.in/edQ2kNkV

Excavation in dune sand is one of the biggest challenges that I have faced. You need a huge volume of water to be sprayed to keep the trenches in tact and people working in trenches have a very difficult time even during a gentle Sirocco. #Construction #Pipeline #Infrastructure #Dubaiinfrastructure

Dumping the base layer materials with loaders and stabilizing the slope with excavators is the method of constructing the ground for the breakwaters. This is the method of marine construction, but it depends on the conditions of the project and the facilities. 👌 Jarjoub Sea Port Breakwater
