Perspective. Ever had yours changed? I’ve had a good career and lots of opportunities to lead and learn. I also thought I had a pretty good perspective on what it took to be a leader. It wasn’t until I accepted the challenge of being a CEO that I realized that “pretty good” might have been only “kinda okay”. As an employee or a business leader, it is easy to second guess the “idiots in the C-Suite”. Even though I was aware that sometimes my leaders knew stuff I didn’t, it was still pretty easy to forget to forgive and just assume the worst. But then I walked a mile in the CEO shoes, and my perspective changed. Don’t misunderstand, sometimes there are idiots in the C-suite. Sometimes they really do make the worst decisions. But now I know that a lot of decisions, good or bad, are still really hard decisions. And more often than I would like to admit, I probably would have made the same bad choices. Wherever my next adventure takes me, I hope that this new-found perspective helps make me a better leader and  a better follower.

With a background in successfully opening 62 new locations, from blueprint reviews to grand openings, and mentoring leadership teams, I'm excited to bring my expertise to new challenges. Traveling to Ensure Excellence: Visiting various locations to maintain high standards and consistent operations. And the search begins…

I start my NEW JOB next week - it is a major change for me. I don't normally do regrets, but I have one BIG regret about about stepping back from Purpose Led Performance. Last week I spent an amazing three days in Asturias running a purpose and leadership retreat alongside my Purpose Collective partners, Alberto Gonzalez Otero and Sarah Rozenthuler. It was perfectly timed to help me reflect on the last five years, and to start to look ahead at my next adventure. A space between my last and next chapter. As you can see in the video we hiked in the mountains, swam in ice-cold waters, surfed, spent time on beautiful deserted beaches and kayaked through amazing countryside. But they are just a small part of what we did. We 'unplugged' from the hectic day to day. Put our phones down. We spent time individually reflecting on and then discussing with a group of peers questions like: When you were young what impact did you want to have on the world? What are you grateful for? If you knew you couldn't fail what would you do? What brings you to flow? What does the world need? What do you love to do? All of those questions focused us on our own individual purpose. The activities in nature created a space for all of us to step back and really connect with those questions. It reinforced to me that my next step is the right one - I am so excited to get going. So, why do I have a REGRET? One of my areas of work at PLP is coaching leadership teams, helping them develop trust and cohesion to become a high performing team. I wish I had the opportunity to take some of those teams to Asturias to do that work in nature - I think the impact would have been huge, and it would also be a lot of fun. While I won't be able to provide that service to my clients, Alberto and Sarah will offer that opportunity to leadership teams. If you want to really bond your team together to achieve amazing things you should get in touch with them. And in my new job role, as 'Chief People and Performance Officer', I might get the opportunity to take my team there.
