Wow….. it's been 12 months since I left hospitality operations and it's been a time of reflection for me 🤔 One thing I've learned is that balance is everything. ⚖️ 🧘 The skills and mindset I gained in hospitality, like people management, standards, financial controls, and bigger picture thinking, have stuck with me even outside of the day to day of the industry📈 But what I've come to realise is that no matter what the job or even the industry you're in, the people around you are everything💙 #peopleworkforpeople Instead of focusing on where individuals aren't doing a "good job," we should be asking why they aren’t❓are we providing right training, coaching, support and development🙌 (we won’t always get it right but we should give it a good go!!) Leadership transcends titles, levels within a company, or specific roles. Too often, there's a misconception that leadership is reserved for those at the top of an organizational chart. I firmly believe this is not the case. Reflecting on my journey, my role as an assistant manager in the hospitality industry marked my first genuine encounter with leadership. It wasn't about overseeing operations from a distance; it was about being #hands-on, filling in the gaps where my team needed me the most. In the pursuit of success, I focused on climbing the corporate ladder. Fueled by the desire to get the coveted promotions I gave it my all - late nights, early mornings, every ounce of dedication. Anytime I heard others’ names being promoted but not mine, disappointment hit hard. Instead of dwelling on what could have been, I was inspired by the future, but also embraced the mantra, “bloom where you are planted.” focused my energy on my personal growth in the present and discovered unexpected opportunities right where I was.
