"Shifting Ground: A Strategic Foresight Framework to Transform African Mining," authored by myself, Letitia Jentel, and Njeri Mwagiru, in partnership with the African Union African Minerals Development Centre (AMDC) 🌍 Our work explores how the African Minerals Development Centre (AMDC) can harness strategic foresight, anticipatory governance, and collaborative partnerships to navigate uncertainties and unlock the full potential of Africa’s vast mineral resources. 🔑 We introduce a co-created strategic foresight framework that focuses on the AMDC's four key pillars of their mandate: 1. Implementing the African Mining Vision 2. Leveraging geological information systems 3. Strengthening economic linkages and value chains 4. Empowering artisanal and small-scale mining communities 💡 By embedding these practices, we aim to address vulnerabilities, build resilience, and foster more anticipatory governance in Africa’s mining sector. A wonderful two days at The London Indaba 2024, with Peter Leon and Greg Mulley each chairing panels and contributing to discussions about investing in critical resources and #mining in Africa. Peter examined how international governments, including #saudiarabia, are partnering with African governments and the #miningindustry in pursuit of #criticalminerals and #criticalmetals, while Greg explored whether value addition/beneficiation is the silver bullet for African economies. The #energytransition is increasingly placing the spotlight on resourcing and supplying minerals and metals.
