First time seeing a #WindshieldSign on a dry van. Typically seen on aggregate (end dumps, side dumps, or belly dumps), but not dry freight. Any other carriers using this on your 48' or 53' assets? #SafetySign #WarningSign #Warning #TrailerSign #SafetyLeadership #Trailer

One of the most crucial test carried out onboard ship is the Mooring Winch Brake Test. as we all know, Winches are one of the most critical equipment onboard ships and it's very important to ascertain its functionality as per maker's instruction. Erratic performance of the winches have led to many accidents and casualties on board ships in the past. Brake is one of the most important feature of a winch. It ensures that the winch holds the drum which also holds the mooring rope in its position so that the mooring lines are kept sufficiently tight. Another important function of the brake is called ‘rendering’ which ensures that the mooring line shed its load before it parts (through slipping of drum), just in case it undergoes excessive stress. This is called Brake Rendering.

Tugs, barges, and ships are exposed to unique risks while transiting inland waterways, and the proper management of inland waterway transportation is vital for cargo safety and risk mitigation. Claims resulting from delays, salvage equipment costs, tugs, underwater surveys, etc., can be substantial, and the preparedness of equipment and vigilance/preparedness of mariners are crucial to preventing losses and mitigating exposure if an incident occurs. The American P&I Club maintains an "Inland Waterways" webpage featuring best practices guidance documents that address ship anchoring and mooring considerations in U.S. rivers during high water conditions and barge fleeting area issues. The page also links to the Club’s “Man Overboard” webpage, which comprises a range of media applications, including posters for use both on board and ashore and video animations. Find these resources here: https://lnkd.in/g5NZMmtt Members are encouraged to review these materials and contact the Managers for further guidance or information. #LossPrevention #InlandWaterways #AmericanPandI #EO_Marine

Girting .......................... This is a situation Tugs face during towing operations Which if poorly handled may lead to capsizing. It is defined thus: as the moment when a towing line under tension exerts a heeling moment on the Tug, causing it to be pulled sideways. The picture below shows the situation, the vessel is to be quickly maneuvered back to the right position. i.e with the towline directly astern. Anyone faced this kind of challenge at sea?? Please share how you overcame this situation.
