🎙 Chris Stark, Chief Executive of The Carbon Trust, recently featured in an episode of Aurora Energy Research’s Energy Unplugged Podcast, discussing the UK’s climate targets with Managing Director for the UK & Ireland and European Hydrogen, Dan Monzani. The episode explored the ambitions of the UK’s Carbon Budgets and their achievability, and whether climate targets are being scaled back due to impossibility or political will. Chris discussed the benefits of CCS, particularly carbon removals like DAC and BECCS, as a climate solution, and the need to deploy CCS alongside emission reduction efforts in order to reach net zero. Chris noted that “If you haven’t got carbon capture as an option, all you are doing is increasing the volume of emissions that you expect… for the next 10, 20 or 30 years.” The episode also delved into the progress the CCS industry has made so far, and the challenges the industry is still facing.
