Most of the power system engineers, and managers, even have no idea of how the active power and reactive power are balanced in a power grid. What's the difference between frequency stability and angular stability? The basic principle and algorithm of a distance relay. They even have no idea of what is a grid-forming controller although developing a so-called grid-forming inverter controller. That's my impression of working 12 years at GE grid solutions.

In this interview I visit with seasoned energy industry vet Ed Kovalik, these days the Chairman and C.E.O. of Prairie Operating Co. (NASD-PROP.) Prairie--which obtained its Nasdaq listing right before this past Christmas--has garnered attention, in part, due to its strategy of buying accretive energy assets in what we call a "sweet spot" in the market/industry right now. Here' you'll learn about both Prairie's core assets it launched with in 2023 and its latest impressive acquisition; this all together with its growth and looming plans for added development and production. NEPower's story began in 2016 when Jussi Kempus and the company's co-founder, Mika Alatalo, merged their electrical businesses. Despite his role as a co-founder, Jussi is still very much 'hands-on,' spending up to 70% of his work time on-site 🔧 'We're allowed to make mistakes here! I think that's really important,' says Jussi about the warm atmosphere at NEPower. Last autumn, Jussi was tackling a particularly challenging project. At the Vaasa waterworks, they're dismantling the old main switchboard and installing a new one. However, the system can't be shut down in between: the dismantling and installation must take place while the waterworks continue normal operations. What does Jussi do in his free time?
