This is a long time in the making but encouraging to see the Government announce a review of the registration process for new chemicals used for timber treatment, pest control and animal remedies. The cross over in processes between the EPA, MPI and Worksafe needs sorting - possibly by forming one entity for processing agrichemical and animal medicine registrations, much like our key trading partners, e.g. the APMVA in Australia. Finally time to move forward and for the government to provide clear direction and efficient processes for companies bringing new innovative products to the New Zealand primary sector to manage our pests and diseases. plus inhibit animal methane emissions.

There are those who aren't, or less, happy about the developing cultivated meat industry. The nascent industry faces a public relations challenge amidst a campaign raising concerns about its environmental impact, animal welfare implications, and scientific legitimacy. Critics, spearheaded by the Center for the Environment and Welfare, present various arguments against the technology, including potential energy and water demands, the lack of conclusive data on animal welfare benefits, and questions surrounding the regulatory oversight of novel cell culture protocols. Industry proponents, however, counter these assertions by highlighting potential environmental advantages over traditional meat production, citing reduced land use and greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, they emphasize the ongoing animal welfare research within the field and point to the rigorous safety assessments conducted by regulatory bodies. More states lining up to ban cell-grown meat By Dan Flynn on September 6, 2024 So called alt-meat, cultivated from cells and grown in laboratory-like facilities, has experienced regulatory and market success in only fits and starts. But it remains enough of a threat to traditional animal agriculture. And several states are ready to save animal agriculture by banning alt-meat entirely. Three states have already enacted laws limiting or entirely banning cultivated meat. https://lnkd.in/gWz4JMfX

Shockingly, or not, there are those who are not happy, to say the least, about cultivated meat. This Time Magazine article takes aim at recent efforts in some US states to ban lab-grown meat, arguing that such measures are shortsighted and counterproductive. This article serves as a strong rebuke to the recent bans on lab-grown meat, arguing that they stifle innovation, hinder progress, and ultimately harm consumers and the economy. Instead, it encourages embracing and regulating this new technology to explore its potential benefits for the environment, food security, and animal welfare. Click below to read the full story. Are consumers still willing to spend more on meat? According to 2024 Power of Meat, “91% of consumers surveyed say that they can be persuaded to spend a little more on meat and poultry.” Anne-Marie Roerink, principal and founder of San Antonio-based 210 Analytics LLC, notes that how consumers look at premium meat is different today, because their preferences are more personalized...the consumer definition of premium is related to production claims such as organic, grass-fed or free-range. If your shoppers are seeking premium quality beef and pork that carry the claims most important to them, Meyer Natural Foods family of brands has you covered. Top claims important to consumers of beef and pork include raised in the USA, no antibiotics, no added hormones, all-natural*, grass-fed and organic. Happy new week! In Florida, USA, a simmering controversy around cultivated meat arose in recent months, following the introduction of a new proposed bill aiming to ban the production, sale, and distribution of cultivated meat. The bill, backed by the livestock industry, has ignited a complex debate sparking both support and opposition. Those who object the ban highlight its potential to stifle innovation, limit consumer choice, and harm Florida's economy. They emphasize the potential benefits of cultivated meat, including reduced environmental footprint and improved animal welfare. They also argue that regulations, rather than bans, could address safety concerns while fostering responsible development. Cultivated meat is just normal meat, but way cooler. 🍽️🌱 Yes, it's grown from cells, but the taste? Indistinguishable from traditionally farmed meat. What's not normal is the positive impact it has on our planet – less water, no land needed, and no animals harmed. It truly is the future of food. Cultivated meat is a game-changer for sustainability and animal welfare, and it's deliciously normal. And we can't wait for everyone to try it! 🚀🌍 Check out more of our products here: https://lnkd.in/gD4fTXcV #CultivatedMeat #Meat #Food #FoodTech #Innovation Paul Bevan Jacob Goodwin Andrew Laslett Vijay Kumar Wendy Chua Ella Jenkins Robert Gemmell
