Do watch this inspiring video of 1:40 mins. What stuck with me was the nuance of want vs need in her olympics journey.
Want is a demand and you are willing to show up for it. It's a spirit of abundance. Your self-worth is far beyond it coming fulfilled it or not. You are willing to win it all and also lose it all- very determined and courageous spirit.
Need - yes you want it yet you smell of desperation here. You are not willing to lose it all. It's tied to your self-worth. Somewhere the need is so high, that you forget the joy of your sport. Efforts maybe equal yet it comes from a space of fear and lack of true courage. You are trembling to make it happen and that's where you lose it.

YOU ARE FAR GREATER THAN YOU KNOW.
We are illumined by consciousness and eclipsed by unconsciousness. We dissolve the eclipse. The results? You know what it means to be fully human. Hence, high performance, peace
FOR YOUR CONTEMPLATION
On desires, goals, dreams and their outcomes:
An inspiring, wise voice from an Australian Olympic medallist. It captures a key distinction in discerning one's desires.
Not all athletes, coaches and leaders understand this lesson. Many are overcome by driveness, leaving them off balance and ultimately unhealthy, unhappy. It is imperative to learn about "hosting" and holding desires for health and well-being.
Put another way, she instructs that you can have desires, but don't let the desires have (consume, dominate, addict) you.
Many are consumed by desire. One's with is tied to their outcome. This is an unconscious error and a case of mistaken identity.
Study, learn, practice self knowledge - what it means to be fully human - to know how to desire consciously.

WORDS-MATTER WEDNESDAY.
Like many this week, I've got #OlympicFever. Of course, the spotlight is on the athletes, but I've found myself drawn to the stories of coaches and team leaders. #Swimming
Summer Sanders (1992 Barcelona swimmer). Coach says, "Make the Impossible Possible!" Summer couldn't imagine the swim time he was asking her to shoot for. Then he broke it down, lap by lap, and the goal seemed more attainable. Coaching the process, bit by bit, makes any goal seem more realistic. #USMS
Missy Franklin (2012 London swimmer). Coach wanted to know what times she expected to swim; Missy hadn't gotten specific on actual race times but was more focused on "good effort" or "smart strategy". Once her coach had her focus on performance goals, her mission became laser focused. Goal setting needs to be specific and measurable. #UnfilteredWaters
Katie Huff (2004 Athens Olympics). She had a less than remarkable first race and was affecting her focus on her next race. One of the seasoned older swimmers saw her demeaner, called her over and spent 2 minutes bolstering her ego and convincing her she needed to keep going and soldier up. #ToySoldier Sometimes, it just takes a mentor to take notice and provide words of encouragement. #UnfilteredWaters
Leon Marchand (2024 France Olympics...and French athlete). There are still many coaching secrets that may come out in the archives, but Leon has been coached by Bob Bowman, the same coach who helped Michael Phelps achieve his 28 career Olympic medals. I'm hoping there will be a book!
Most athletes will tell you that lessons learned in sport carry over into life. Here's to all the great #coaches, #bosses, #mentors who helped make the impossible possible.

'Stanley, we've been watching the Olympics, why are we not watching the Paralympics?'
I felt challenged and embarrassed.
Are you watching?
Sport teach us so much.
Kagiso Monyadiwa writes:
At the ongoing paralympics, most of the athletes especially the blind ones need a guide for their races.
This means for the athletes to win, the guides must train with great energy just like the competitors.
Now that is revealing for me in the sense that sometimes to win, you need the strength of one who actually isn't competing but by leveraging on his strength, you can claim gold.
Another says, what is interesting is the guide can't cross the finish line before the athlete competing, but they have to lead most of the way.
The lesson:
Everyone needs someone at one point in time for life's podium of glory.
In our careers, we need mentors and coaches to nuture talent and lead us to the podium of growth and success. 🍃
🏆 The Greatest ‘What Ifs’ in Sports History
Sports are full of moments that make us wonder “what if?” These pivotal events have the power to change careers, reshape leagues, and even alter the fabric of the sport itself.
🤔 What if Derek Redmond’s father hadn’t joined him on the track in Barcelona 1992 when he was injured? Would his story of perseverance have touched as many hearts?
🤔 What if Bo Jackson had never suffered that career-ending hip injury? Could he have become the greatest two-sport athlete of all time?
🤔 What if the 1980 USSR Olympic team had competed in Los Angeles 1984? How would the medal table have looked?
🤔 And what about Elnur Mammadly? If his knee injury hadn’t sidelined him, could he have continued to dominate judo, potentially winning gold at multiple Olympics for over a decade?
Sports fans, I want to hear from you! What are the biggest “what if” moments that you think about, and how do you think they could have changed the game?
Share your thoughts and let’s dive into the most intriguing alternate realities in the world of sports!

Lead a high performance program that implements strategies to support sustainable excellence within an environment that inspires individuals to unlock their full potential. Lead Ethically with Respect/Integrity/Curiosity
It is such a privilege to take part in Own The Podium "Beyond Performance" project. While sharing this video requires a considerable amount of vulnerability, it is the essence of the project that I am incredibly proud of. As coaches and sports leaders in Canada, our roles carry significant weight. We are immersed in the realm of high performance every day, with the ultimate aim of assisting the athletes under our guidance in achieving their lifelong goals, often reaching world-class success.
The core message of "Beyond Performance" is crucial, reminding all sport leaders that we hold the privilege of working with remarkable individuals, athletes and support staff. It is our responsibility to lead with passion, empathy, respect, integrity and curiosity, recognizing that by supporting the human first, gives performance the best shot at succeeding. By actively listening to both athletes and colleagues, we gain access to valuable insights that can guide us with our decision making. This, in turn, enables us to implement appropriate strategies, fostering an environment that not only supports but also sustains excellence. The goal is to create a space that inspires each individual to unlock their full potential. After all, isn't that the very essence of why we are dedicated to this pursuit?
Please check out the other videos released within this project, incredible messages from some of the most incredible sport leaders in Canada.

🚴♂️💔 Integrity Over Everything in Sports #Triathlon
In the closely-knit world of triathlon, the recent doping scandal that stripped a competitor of their title at Ironman Texas has rippled through the community, ultimately handing back the victory to Patrick Lange. This incident isn’t just a win or loss on paper; it’s a stark reminder of the importance of integrity in sports.
Having been a competitive runner myself, I know the temptation and the pressure that can come with the desire to win. But watching someone like Lange, who competes with honor, ultimately have his victory delayed - not by his own doing but because of another's poor choices - is both heartbreaking and enlightening.
🤔 What does this tell us about the value of fair play in sports?
🏅 Can a revised result truly replace the moment of triumph?
Here's a call to action for all athletes, supporters, and stakeholders: Uphold the true spirit of competition. It’s not just about the medals or the titles, but about pushing your limits honestly and inspiring others to do the same.
