🗣️ Chairman Carlton Reeves of the United States Sentencing Commission has spoken truth to the inequities within our justice system: 'Consider the rioter prosecutors said, engaged in some of the most barbaric violence on January the Sixth. Sentenced to 90 months for dragging a police officer into a violent mob—two years below the mandatory minimum for a kid paid a few dollars to run a half a pound of crack across town. Some might say that's outrageous. Consider the Rioter who recruited, directed, and encouraged the assault, given 18 years—many years less than federal sentences for black and brown men caught up in a stash house scheme concocted by law enforcement officers. That too, some may say is outrageous. And consider the ink spilled over lives destroyed by the prison system. Every day, young people lose years not for treasonous attacks on democracy, but for selling insignificant amounts of drugs or possessing a firearm.’ The Department of Justice must heed these words, reflecting on the inconsistencies in our justice system. The growing criticism of stash house sting operations demands change. Let's urge the DOJ to disavow this tactic and reconsider its impact on lives. #JusticeReform #CriminalJustice #StashHouseStings #DepartmentofJustice

A group of Wisconsin criminal justice advocates is seeking to invalidate cash bail amendments that voters recently approved. The group claims the amendments were not passed in accordance with proper procedures. A ruling is forthcoming. Currently, cash bail amendments enable judges to consider defendants' criminal history and danger to the public when setting bail in certain cases. If the group is successful, this would no longer be an option. When you are charged with a crime in Wisconsin, turn to Ahmad & Nolan Defense to help you secure your pretrial release and fight back against the charges. 🇺🇸POLICE | LACK OF JUDGEMENT KILLS Police presence regularly creates the lethal threat — whereas an immediate withdrawal would often regularize the situation. "Stand-Your-Ground" police adopted posture is a real problem, danger to society — No duty to retreat The police officer only has to "feel" an immediate threat to life or serious injury to kill. Whereas a few steps backwards could save hundreds of lives every year. Under such a law, people have no duty to retreat before using deadly force in self-defense, so long as they are in a place where they are lawfully present — The "line in the sand" law According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, about 30 states have some form of so called Stand Your Ground laws. Certainly the police have a duty to enforce the law, but up to death for the "Stand Your Ground" principle doesn't always seem necessary.. Risk management in terms of "harm reduction", such as withdrawing in the presence of serious danger, should also be a responsibility, a duty of the police before killing. I think California got a better orientation by changing the law from reasonableness to necessity: https://lnkd.in/ezsqZZrs ---

Former President of the Law Society of England and Wales | Keynote Speaker | Leadership Advisory | Coaching | Thought Leader
🙉 See No Justice, Hear No Justice! For those tuned in and watching last night’s first televised debate of the election campaign, you would have noted that no mention was made of the justice system or the state it’s in. The justice system, unlike education, defence, or the NHS, sits within a non-protected department and is likely to see further cuts to its funding. This cannot be right when our prisons are overcrowded, unprecedented backlogs of cases are waiting to be heard in our courts and tribunals—running into tens of thousands—court buildings are crumbling, and there is an increasing inability to access justice or exercise your legal rights. Whichever party wins the next general election, the choices the next government will face are stark, but not investing in or talking about the justice system or protecting it from more cuts further diminishes all of our legal rights, our safety and liberty. #legalrights #AccesstoJustice #Justice #investinjustice

How many more Law Enforcement Officers must be physically attacked, shot at, shot or killed before action is taken to end this “War On Cops?” How many Officers need to be driven from the profession due to injuries from attacks or from the constant barrage of hatred aimed at them? How many Officers must die and how many folded flags must be handed to their widows, widowers, children, or parents before we get serious about defending our Officers against the lies of activists and certain politicians who fuel distrust and hatred against Officers? When will we take on criminals and crime head on while fighting to fix the Criminal Justice System that has been shattered over the last several years? At no time in the last 60 years has the Law Enforcement Profession needed stronger and more committed leaders then now who are willing to speak the truth the the political powers and the community, build relationships of trust and respect with the law abiding and true members of their communities, properly-recruit-train-develop-retain Officers, develop and implement proactive crime fighting strategies, and push District Attorney’s for prosecutions and convictions and Judges for proper sentencing. Law Enforcement Leaders encouraging de-policing by not engaging in traffic enforcement or quality of life criminal violations in order to make a small segment of society happy or putting on more “Cookies with Rookies” events will not fix this. What is needed are Crime Fighters. #police #policeofficer #policeofficers #officer #officers #policedepartment #policechief #lawenforcement #lawenforcementofficers #copscountpolicematter #policingmatters #sheriff #deputy #accountablity #consequences #criminallaw #crimes #qualityoflife #publicsafety #officersafety #communitysafety International Association of Chiefs of Police Police Executive Research Forum Major Cities Chiefs Association National Policing Institute National Police Chiefs' Council FBI National Academy Associates, Inc. After several years of too many politicians and numerous activists screaming to “Defund The Police” it is nice to see there are some politicians and citizens whom are fighting back to try to ensure Law Enforcement in their communities are properly funded. You can only hope that once other community members see this and look at the crime problems their communities are facing and witnessing the weakening of the criminal justice system which have all been caused by “progressive” politicians and anti—police activists other communities will follow. Community’s need protection, society needs laws, law abiding people deserve safety. Simple concepts that too many so called representatives of the people have forgotten in order to push radical agendas in order to appease the activists whose platforms are often built from lies, false data, and rumor. We need to look beyond all the garbage that gets piled up in front of use and do what is right for the safety of each and every community. Some of biggest liars are those politicians who have done nothing for public safety and not supported Law Enforcement who are now trying to play themselves off as “Law and Order.” #police #policeofficer #officer #officers #peaceofficer #policedepartment #cops #cop #lawenforcement #policechief #sheriff #deputy #publicsafety #communitysafety #officersafety #truth #lawandorder #portectandserve #copscountpolicematter #policingmatters #policing #crime #criminaljustice #criminaljusticesystem International Association of Chiefs of Police Police Executive Research Forum Major Cities Chiefs Association FBI National Academy Associates, Inc. This is a good example of how Law Enforcement Officers can do every right and still have to use deadly force. These Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Deputies worked as a team, attempted to verbally deescalate the situation, used multiple less than lethal options, and then only utilized lethal force when the criminal charged at them in an aggressive manner while holding the machete in an attack position. The Deputies use of deadly force is clearly justified. There is only one person responsible for the criminals death, the criminal. #police #policeofficer #policeofficers #officer #officers #lawenforcement #lawenforcementofficer #policedepartment #policechief #cops #cop #sheriff #deputy #marshal #constable #fedarlagent #policeman #p1 #iacp #calchiefs #cpoa #prosecution #prosecutor #prosecutors #crime #criminaljustice #crimnallaw #crimes #crimnaljusticesystem #law #criminals #criminal #communitysafety #publicsatey #copscountpolicematter #policing #policematter #policingmatters #safestreets #commonsense #safety #crisis #failedagenda #consequences #backtheblue #accountability #accountabilitymatters #districtattorney #crimeprevention #lawandorder #proactive #qualityoflife #leadership #leadershipmatters #leaders #statelaws #violentcrimes #supportpolice #lessthanlethal #taser #axon #bodycam #bwc #deescalation https://lnkd.in/gNNKUxNc
