Head of Middle East for LOD, a Consilio Company | Helping in-house legal teams gain extra capacity through secondments, outsourcing and tech solutions

This is a really helpful piece for GCs and other legal leaders who manage global businesses. I think Point 7 is much easier said than done - how do you effectively balance global priorities with local sensitivities? As a new arrival to the UAE and the wider Middle East region, I'm still learning a lot about the local market - and I'm loving it! That doesn't mean it's easy. The balancing act between the exigences of global business and being an actor in a regional market is sometimes a bit fraught. There are a number of calls that require real judgement, a skill that is honed over time and can often be more instinctual than scientific; after all, commerce isn't conducted in a laboratory. One lesson I've learned in my short time so far is that sometimes your job is to educate the wider business on your market. You have to explain, often in simple terms, why certain actions will or won't work. And you have to be confident in pushing back when you need. #HumpDayThoughts.
