🌿 Is hemp textile #vegan ? The answer is... yes, but it depends! It depends on the maceration (retting) procedure, that can be done in several ways: 1️⃣ 🌊 #water process: the fibrous material is left in water to remove lignin, waxes, resins, tannins, gum and color pigments. Then it is spun into fabric using different spinning techniques. The quality of the resulting fabric is very high. 2️⃣ 🐖 #animal process: animal fat is used to speed up the process of maceration, but the quality is inferior, because not all impurities are removed, which makes it difficult for spinning. But, 3️⃣ 👩🔬 The most critical step in the production of hemp yarn remains related to the #artificial maceration process, since the chemicals used to dissolve the pectin, such as caustic soda, can also affect the fibers thus compromising the final quality of the fabric. However, there are other techniques for fiber steeping, such as "microbiological" steeping, where with the addition of bacteria the steeping process is speeded up and good fabric quality is achieved, without harming the plant properties! — 👉 Read more at www.hemp-style.com #hemp #hempquality #hempindustry #hemptextile #hempproducts #sustainablefashion #vegan #veganfashion #veganfriendly

Industry news: Pulp and parent tissue roll prices in major regional markets for tissue paper in China, January, 2024 According to the survey data of Tissue Paper & Disposable Products magazine, the overall prices of pulp in China are in a stable state in January 2024, near the Lunar New Year. Compared with December 2023, the average prices of imported bleached softwood pulp boards and imported bleached broadleaf pulp boards in Hebei fluctuated slightly upward among wood pulp. And among non-wood pulp, the average prices of bleached bamboo pulp and natural color bamboo fiber pulp in Sichuan and Chongqing continued to decline compared with December. Average prices of pulp in other regions and types remained stable. In January 2024, compared to the trend of relatively stable pulp prices, more significant changes had happened in the average price of parent tissue roll in different regions. Among them, the average price of raw paper of bleached wood pulp in Hebei increased by RMB 100 per ton. Prices of various types of parent tissue roll decreased in Guangxi and Sichuan and Chongqing regions, of which the parent tissue roll of natural color bamboo fiber pulp in Sichuan and Chongqing decreased by RMB 300 per ton. #tissue #nonwovens #hygieneproducts

Organic linen is a fabric made from flax plants grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. This not only benefits the environment but also results in a hypoallergenic and breathable fabric that's gentle on the skin. The organic flax seeds are sown in fields that haven't been exposed to harmful chemicals for several years. Once mature, the flax plants are pulled up from the ground, a process called retting. The stalks undergo a process to separate the long, strong linen fibers from the woody core. The separated fibers are spun into yarn. The yarn is then woven on a loom to create the saree fabric. The woven saree may undergo washing, dyeing, or embellishment according to the design. The finished product is a organic linen saree which is not only graceful to look at when draped but is also breathable and harmless to the skin of the person draping the weave. The video in frame is the making of the organic linen saree. We shall soon try to share a post of the first few step of how the yarn is made ready for this weaving process. Until then stay tuned! https://lnkd.in/g9C-X6FV https://lnkd.in/gFZqvxTx https://lnkd.in/d5bHfMej #bhaweyahandlooms #handloomsarewsgoa #goankunbisaree #handloomsarees #sixyardsofelegance #linensarees #organiclinensarees #sareelove #sareecare #artofdraping

What are your thoughts on this? I feel BOTH are important ways to utilize this undervalued plant. HOW you use it- makes all the difference IMO. Whether for true hemp fiber or for creating tencel/lyocell, it is up to the manufacturer to remain environmentally responsible for their processes, dyes and materials. #hempfiber
HEMP TENCEL Could hemp be turned into tencel/lyocell, viscose or any other regenerated cellulose fibre? Sure it can. Would it still be "hemp fibre"? Not at all. I've been recently hearing quite a lot of confusion on this issue. Tencel is a brand of lyocell, which is basically a man-made fibre that is produced by turning cellulosic material into a gooey mass and forming it into staple fibre. OK, that's a gross simplification, but for the sake of clarity let's leave the technicalities out 😉 Whether you use purpose grown eucalyptus or birch trees (as I believe Lenzing Group does), bamboo (often the case with Asian manufacturers) or hemp stalks leftovers - doesn't really matter much for the end user. Sure, it does matter for the process parameters, but basically cellulose is cellulose, regardless of the source. Viscose-like fibre made of hemp will have exactly the same properties as one made from birch or bamboo - and none of the "original" hemp fibre properties. The last point is probably the reason why the topic is gaining some traction - precisely because some people would like to market "hemp fibre" WITHOUT the hemp fibre stiffness. Don't get me wrong - I believe tencel is good stuff, no doubt about it on my side. We are actually working on blending it with our cottonized hemp fibre and the early results look very promising. Just don't call it "hemp fibre", since it is not. Precisely for the same reason viscose made from bamboo cannot legally be called "bamboo fibre" (bamboo doesn't produce fibre!). ... and yet, I expect to see quite a lot of "HEMP CLOTHING" made from cellulosic waste that bear no resemblance to the original thing, but make for a nice, soft fabric 🤣 -- Like my posts? Meet Re-Fil, the latest addition to the Aurifil family. It's not just any thread; it's 100% organic cotton thread. We've put our heart and soul into creating Re-Fil. We started with the finest Egyptian Makò cotton, known for its extra-long fibers. This gives our threads the same top-notch quality and performance you love with our Classic Cotton. But here's the best part - it's all sustainable and GMO-free. Re-Fil it's certified by OekoTex, BCI, and GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard). That means we go the extra mile to make sure our organic cotton stays separate from the regular stuff throughout the entire process. We follow strict guidelines to keep things eco-friendly and ensure fair labor practices too. Our GOTS certification guarantees that from seed to final product, everything is handled with care. No genetically modified seeds, no pesticides, and a mindful approach to water use in cultivation. And let's not forget the colors! Re-Fil comes in a rainbow of 108 shades, all GOTS certified. We've carefully picked these colors to match your style, from classics to trendy options. Aurifil has years of experience, so you know you're getting a product that meets your sewing needs. Re-Fil comes in 250g cones and 30g spools, packaged in sets of six. The amount of thread you get depends on the type, whether it's 50/2, 40/2, or 28/2. So, why not choose a more sustainable path for your sewing and embroidery projects? #SewSustainably #OrganicCotton #Aurifil #ReFilThread
