Sitting late at night to introspect on the last 6 months of madness at CBJ:- 1. Booking 30% of our total retainer client bases as new clients. Most of them being advisory clients for a holistic solution to their businesses (Legal + Tax + compliance + Fundraising). 2. Closing / working on more than 10 fundraising deals in different capacities (in some cases as a primary lead Advisory and legal firm managing end to end transactions for the entire round). *Booked our first IPO client recently and diligently screening and onboarding the suitable merchant bankers in town for this small SME listing deal. (This is a whole new challenge and I genuinely respect all the experienced professionals who have navigated through these transactions). 3. After having grown my company to a size of 15 members (and hiring / creating new HODs) and now consolidating, the worry to scale again has re-arised. Sometimes the worry is more about the time and effort that goes into a founder's role in managing the training and processes for each new hiring / each new client / each new update. 4. Wondering how long should I sacrifice my sleep and keep being bootstrapped. 5. While doing all of the above, managing personal fitness really has been challenging to say the least In any case, back to keeping away from the noise.

𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲? I am often asked about my views on the real estate market for the coming year. Whilst I can waffle on about the impact of changing interest rates, a tough fund-raising environment blah blah who knows what the future holds! But I do know about the current and upcoming demand for hiring. With the caveat that we focus on real estate finance, investment, and development. 𝗔𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 - hiring in the alternate lending market is on the rise. Mainly the UK development / bridging lenders and the funds with a pan-European mandate to provide whole loans and mezzanine debt. 𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 - not bogged down with a struggle to fund-raise, a number of family offices are seeing interesting buying opportunities and are beefing up their teams. 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 - they have been biding their time, but we are starting to see the special sits investors come alive with an obvious interest in the German market. 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰 - people typically want to work for a fund with a mandate which is country and sector agnostic, but we’re not seeing much hiring like that. Firms currently building out their acquisition teams have a focused strategy e.g. logistics, resi / BTR, PBSA.  𝗗𝗲𝗯𝘁 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘆 - as borrowers look to navigate a changing lending landscape they need expert help. Here’s a personal example of how powerful recommendations can be; I have friends who, when asked “Do you ever use Trip Advisor?”, reply with “No, because we have you!”. They know I am notoriously hard to please in restaurants, so in other words, if they can please me, then they must be good! (I think there’s a compliment in there somewhere…) 🤝🏼 The same principle applies in a commercial environment.
