All Virginia employers offering internships, regardless of size and sector, are encouraged to submit a nomination form. Each year, we place thousands of high school students in job shadows and hundreds of students in internships to help them explore future career opportunities, network with local employers, and learn about training opportunities to reach their goals. A key next step for students is participation in one of Kirkwood’s Career Academy programs, which are collections of courses in specific career areas. Participation in these programs allows students to earn not only high school credit but also college credit that can be used toward a future degree, all at no cost to them or their families. In a guest column, Greg Dozier, Commissioner of the Technical College System of Georgia, and Debra Lam, founding executive director of The Partnership, discuss workforce development opportunities for early-career professionals. Georgia's job market demands experience, leaving young professionals just starting their careers in a tough spot. Experiential learning, like internships and apprenticeships, can help, but unpaid opportunities actually worsen inequality. Fortunately, the Partnership for Inclusive Innovation is changing this. Their fellowship and summer internship programs offer compensation and real-world experiences, fostering skills and impactful projects. Georgia's focus on public-private partnerships aims to unlock the potential of all young innovators for the state's continuous growth and prosperity. How can we gain the necessary experience when companies are only giving jobs and opportunities to those who already have it? We need to create more job opportunities for the youth - they are our future and deserve a fair chance. We should Implement robust internship and apprenticeship programs that provide hands-on training and experience for entry-level positions. Offer incentives for companies to take on more interns and apprentices. Work with local governments and community organizations to develop youth employment programs that create part-time and summer jobs, allowing young people to build their resumes. With a concerted, multi-faceted effort to create more accessible pathways to employment, we can unlock opportunities for the next generation and set them up for long-term career success. This investment in our youth is an investment in the future of our society.

There is just one thing that made our college life different No, it's not the field, the hard work, the goals. It's the exposure While eating at McDonald's a friend just said- " Yaar maine na utna explore nhi kiya inn 3 saalo mein" And it struck us exactly at that moment. It doesn't matter which college you got into but rather what you explore in depth there. While the institution's brand helps in terms of cohort and infrastructure, it is only the first step in a far longer journey. Your internships, clubs, societies, cold interactions and events where you get to meet people matter a lot. But this is not enough. The depth of your experiences is equally important; the ability to put in your 200% without thinking about the reward is crucial in this transactional and eternally distracted world. It simply means you love what you are doing. What was the place/person/event that gave you exposure in college? PS: Are we counting solo travel as exposure?
