Transform Scotland in partnership with Edinburgh Napier University have published the findings from their Rees Jeffreys Road Fund funded project exploring the potential for using European-style zebra crossings in Scotland. You can follow the link to see both a summary of their findings and the full research report. A limited frequency of crossing points for Scottish pedestrians makes walking journeys longer, inconvenient and potentially unsafe. Local authorities may want to install more crossings but often find that the number of requests for formal crossing points greatly exceeds their budget. The prompting the study team to explore European-style zebra crossings to see if they could be a suitable alternative to traditional pedestrian crossing. The study proposes an alternative and more affordable European-style zebra crossing design which does not require an electricity supply. The study findings are that that European-style zebra crossings could be suitable in for 20mph zones in Scotland, alongside other traffic-calming measures. #Scotland #zebracrossings #pedestrians #roadsafety #FutureOfRoads

Nature-based engineer focussed on walking, cycling, and climate action. Copenhagen Cloudburst Implementation Plan technical design lead (2011-2014), rewilding the footway since 1996.
Really interesting exploration, but on a cold dark winter's evening I am wondering if the aspect of cycling safety/risk was aedequately explored? Also, full spec raised level zebras are already cheap in transport terms, we know that local authorities are not spending enough/any money on walking infrastructure. Isn't proportionate investement in walking infrastructure the greater priority?

Inspiring meeting with Ambassador Brig. Gen. Anthony Phillips-Spencer. As national anthem illustrates, Trinidad and Tobago independent identity was forged from the love of liberty and progress with watchwords being discipline, tolerance, and production. The idea of a tiny Caribbean island like Trinidad and Tobago venturing into space might seem like a distant dream. However, dreams are what push humanity forward. Launching a space programs always signify a leap into the future, demonstrating the nation's determination to be part of cutting-edge scientific and technological advancements. Trinidad and Tobago inspire its citizens, especially its youth, to pursue careers in STEM fields, driving a new generation of innovators and scientists. Islands are vulnerable to the effects of climate change, including rising sea levels, extreme weather events, and coastal erosion. Space technology provides invaluable tools for monitoring and studying climate change patterns.

Through the #MOST (Managing of Social Transformations) and the #InclusivePolicyLab, we hope this work will contribute widely to #Europeancountries but also to the rest of the world. Everywhere around the world, and with #newindustrialstrategies being deployed in many countries, we need the #skills, the #investments and the #tools in governments to make it work!
Very happy to participate at the national launch in Austria of the multi country project on building in-house consulting capacities, with the Federal Ministry for Arts, Culture, the Civil Service and Sport (BMKOES). With Michael Kallinger, and other stakeholders around the table including Thomas Prorok of KDZ - Centre for Public Administration Research. Many thanks to Athina Manta, Hauser Florian and Kjartan Björnsson from DG Reform of the European Commission for their trust in UNESCO to work on this through the MOST UNESCO Inclusive Policy Lab, with Iulia Sevciuc and Claire Hathaway Rusam in the Social and Human Sciences sector led by Gabriela Ramos
