It's easy to understand on the graphic how the Kynurenine pathway can cause HIV-Associated Mitochondrial Dysfunction (HIVAMD) and accelerated aging on PLWH on ART. There is something wrong with the Quinolinate Phosphyribosyl Transferase (QPRT) enzyme on PLWH otherwise most of the Quinolinic acid would transform to NAD(+) ("De-novo" pathway). I think chronic inflammatory states like HIV lean the pathway toward 3HK, 3HAA, and Quinolinic acid formation with LESS NAD(+) production. Like an intracellular pellagra state?.
