A really interesting analysis here on AI discovered drugs! There is a lot of evidence out there about how long drugs take to get to market (historically 10-15 years) and cost A LOT of money to develop, with the majority (some say 90%) of drug candidates failing during clinical trials and often in phase III. Key takeaways from this article: · AI-discovered drug have been found to have an 80-90% success rate vs the historical average of 40-65% in Phase I trials · Phase II trial averages come down quite quickly to 40% (Comparable to historical phase II averages). · Assuming this trend continues into phase III it could see almost a "doubling of pharmaceutical R&D productivity" from 5–10% to ∼9–18%. Whilst this is all good in theory, recent news of AI-drug hunters struggling paints a more practical picture of the current market. Exscientia as one very recent example announced last week that they'd be cutting roughly a quarter of their staff, having streamlined their pipeline in Q4, 2023. So the question is whether the continued investment into AI drug hunting will be worth it? Time will tell. #uniosearch #drugdiscovery #ai #drugdevelopment #clinicaltrials #industrynews #patientsfirst

We are excited to announce our collaboration with OpenAI and Sanofi to build fine-tuned and custom AI solutions to transform drug development. Since our inception, we have focused on building a pharma company differentiated by radical efficiency throughout drug development and clinical trials - and this collaboration helps us advance that vision. As AI accelerates drug discovery, generating more promising candidate drugs than ever before, we believe the most consequential bottleneck to bringing more medicines to patients is the staggering cost and time needed for drug development and clinical trials. By designing and developing AI specifically tailored for drug development, we can increase the total number of candidate drugs that can progress through development, and ultimately deliver more new treatments to patients faster and more efficiently.
