As a recruiter, I've seen many talented individuals face challenging job searches. Recently, I spoke with a candidate who is back in the job market. The last time they were here was in 2020, during the pandemic layoffs. Their experience was tough, taking a long time and being a bit traumatic. When they were laid off again recently, they worried about repeating that experience. But remember, you are not your story. 🌟 Your past job search, no matter how hard or disappointing, doesn't define your future. Whether your next search takes 3 months, 9 months, or longer, keep in mind: you're in the process of finding an opportunity. It’s exciting, and anything can change in a second. Stay the course. I never thought I’d make a post like this, but after seeing the slew of posts from other professionals, I felt compelled to speak up. Like many others on my timeline, I fell victim to a round of layoffs at the end of July from a company I honestly thought I would be with for years. I’ve always struggled with change and instability, and the last few months have been some of the toughest for me. I have applied to hundreds of jobs, had countless interviews, and even made it to the final round for a handful of those companies, only to be told, “We’re going with an internal applicant” or “You just weren’t a fit for our needs.” The constant rejection is almost as brutal as the hiring managers who ghost me with not a single rhyme or reason as to why. This job market, for lack of a better word, sucks. But, if you’re struggling to figure out what’s next, know that you are NOT alone. I’ve seen so many talented, creative, hard-working professionals creating posts just like mine, outlining the struggles of the job market. I am still optimistic about the future, whatever that will hold for me, and if anyone on my network has any advice, tips, or open communications roles available, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
