Reflecting on a busy week as we close out on Million Makers 2023, and look ahead to the 2024 competition! 🚀 It is always a highlight for me to watch all of the incredible participants we support throughout their Million Makers fundraising journey; earning their CPD accreditation, watching them flourish, win awards, gain confidence and learn new skills. But it is so important to remember WHY fundraising initiatives, like #MillionMakers, are so vital. Behind every donation, is a young person who will benefit. A young person who, before finding The Prince's Trust, didn't think they would have a future. A young person that didn't believe they would amount to anything. A young person like Darnell, in the video below. 👇 If you would like to give your employees the opportunity to partake in free, CPD accredited training, whilst raising vital funds to support young people, please reach out to millionmakers@princes-trust.org.uk - we would love to work with you!

OJCF’s Impact Together program has partnered with five nonprofits dedicated to addressing the homelessness crisis in Oregon and Southwest Washington. HomeShare Oregon, one of our participants, takes proactive measures to confront homelessness by leveraging underutilized housing stock and spare bedrooms. HomeShare Oregon is continuously seeking individuals with spare bedrooms, particularly those who may be burdened by mortgages or those who have a desire to contribute to solutions for the affordable housing crisis. Each match not only addresses the immediate housing need, but also frees up an apartment for someone else in need. While we only have 17 days till Opening Day, Charitable causes should always hold a special place in our hearts. They allow us to give back to the community and make a positive impact. What if we could make our contributions even more memorable? Look at a few ways Met Hospitality can add an exciting twist to our philanthropic efforts! 📌 DAY 6: Charitable Causes 🎁 Consider giving tickets to charitable organizations as a feel-good donation. It's not just about the financial contribution; it's about providing an unforgettable experience that can bring joy and positivity to those involved in the organization. 🏥 Think about donating tickets to patients at a local hospital. A game can provide a much-needed break, a chance to relax, and an opportunity to enjoy a moment away from the hospital environment. It's a unique way to show you care and support their journey to recovery. 🎉Let's not forget about our dedicated volunteers. Why not have a drawing to give tickets to a lucky volunteer? It's a fun and exciting way to engage your team and show your appreciation for their hard work. Ready to make your charitable contributions even more meaningful? Catch up with #CarlosMendoza! #MetHospitality #CharitableCauses #CommunityEngagement #EmployeeAppreciation #GiveBack Maximum Respect.

The volunteering tide is changing. Growing demands on people's time and resources means thinking differently about how we involve volunteers. Although not new information, it is a little intimidating when, like so many other charities, we're powered by volunteers. Regular volunteering is crucial to the running of our Baby Banks and supporting an increasing numbers of families. It's scary to question that. That said, we've recently introduced a calendar of "one-off" volunteering days at Little Village. It means those who'd love to get involved but can't commit each week, can do just that. Embraced by our existing volunteers, site teams, values and mission: they can help support families in poverty. It's not the answer to all by any means - we've got lots of tweaks and live learning still to come. But they're very popular, reaffirming to us it is not people's willingness to volunteer that is waning but that life is overwhelming, now more than ever. Our one-off days have welcomed new supporters, friends and family members of volunteers but also professional connections such as Adelaide Peck. It's widening our network with mission-fuelled impact as we've met midwives, DWP colleagues, students, old friends and new. All of which can now carry our share our message to their networks. Massive shout-out to Helen & Daniela who took this little idea, this little seed of "microvolunteering" and grown it into a flourishing flower... #Microvolunteering #oneoffvolunteering #volunteermanagement
Excited to spend the day volunteering at Little Village to support incredible families like Teesha’s! 💖 Teesha’s story, which I received ahead of my volunteering session today with Calleigh-Marie Lawrence, Daniela Spinello and Helen Speedy is a powerful testament to the resilience and strength of the families that the team at Little Village supports every day. They provide essential resources to parents and children in need, ensuring they have the tools to thrive. If you have a moment during your coffee break this morning, watch the video to hear Teesha’s inspiring journey and understand why this cause is so important. Let’s come together to make a difference! 🌟 #CommunitySupport #Volunteering #LittleVillage #FamiliesFirst https://lnkd.in/eKHpuZ_k

There's a new advertising campaign from Barclays UK that has caught my attention. You can watch it here https://lnkd.in/eHTawgnG. It is built on a very simple to understand insight from a report by The Money Advice Service that states "our relationship with money is formed from the age of 7." One of the reasons this resonated with me is that if this is the case when it comes to things like bank accounts and pocket money then it stands to reason that it will apply to charity and philanthropy too. But, at the moment, we don't look to embed these values in children from a young age. As a trustee of First Give it is something that we discuss a lot. What is the best way to ensure that giving to charity is not seen as exceptional or a one-off? How do we make sure that charity is not just "what rich people do" but is accessible to everyone? And how do we get people understanding that the £94bn that charities in the UK spent in the past 12 months isn't just a 'nice-to-have' but is essential in keeping hospitals, the arts, in fact civil society as a whole, afloat. (To give it context, Income Tax raised £277bn over the same period. Make no mistake, the third sector is of huge significance.) And yet, 'giving' is not ingrained in us as children. The First Give programme has impacted on over 200,000 Year 8 pupils in hundreds of schools across the UK. But we know that one intervention is not enough - and Year 8 might also be too late a starting point. Why's this so important? A functioning democracy that is diverse and inclusive cannot be fully funded by the State. The truth is, it never was. Our hospitals, galleries, schools etc have long been funded by philanthropy. Our challenge is to create the next generation of givers. To do that we'll need to start them young... #charity #philanthropy #ad #giving #creative #thirdsector Creative & Commercial
