1 in 4 people will report experiencing a mental health problem of some kind each year. In any given week: - 8 in 100 people are diagnosed with mixed anxiety and depression - 6 in 100 people are diagnosed with generalised anxiety disorder - 3 in 100 people are diagnosed with depression The risk to our mental health is all around us. It has never been more important to understand what causes mental health harm, what exacerbates stress and anxiety in those around us and how we can improve the awareness of our own feelings. Doing the work to improve morale and boost positive mental health will increase productivity in the workplace. So it's definitely worth taking action! Get talking. Keep starting the conversation. Check in with your friends. Trust your instincts when you think someone isn't ok. 'You came into my mind... wanted to check in. Fancy a drink/tea/walk?'
These stats are scary. And to think those numbers are rising 😳

7moThere is a major flaw with those working to support people in the mental health space. I have a friend going through mental health issues and having made 2 attempts on taking their life, because they were not hospitalised they could not access hospital services. They eventually saw their GP who just threw tablets at them and a list of counselling services. Money was an issue for them and every single service on that list wanted payment. So they wanted to give up and just try to survive. They were not in a good place and I paid for them to have counselling for 3 months (£360). Now at the end of the 3 months there is no improvement and because I paid for it they feel guilty there has been no real change, which has forced him into a further downward spiral. There is a major mental health problem in the UK but there is no effective treatment for the majority. I have no real answers but we need to do more.... much much more. What we have is inadequate and is letting people down. My friend is great as masking how he is, there is a stigma around MH from their upbringing. Theybelieve they are beyond help and know others in a similar way and all the services have brushed him, and them, away. MH services pay lip service only to the issue.
