Plant Stress comes in many forms and across Systems. A valuable #Teaching and #Learning Opportunity...reminds me of the #Cranberry #Bog #System...
As a thought exercise, I'd ask my #Students to view such a system as driven by the ground/roots with the air/leaf-canopy considered the 'below' portion of components and activity.
This forces a significant change in perspective and understanding of systems and interactions by a #Student and those in #Research.
The 3-D behaviors, compositions, and time factors of soil processes are extremely different from those of the atmosphere above (flow/motion, moisture, heat). Think about the types of #Impact they would have on any #Insects, #Pests, or #Biological actions and processes.
Any 'pests or stresses' in a plant system, above or below ground, and the behavior of those negatives, will be modulated and determined by both the fundamental characteristics of #Soil and #Atmosphere as well as their physical behaviors.

Plant communication encompasses both aboveground and belowground interactions.
A new #SciencePerspective argues for more research on what happens belowground, which has thus far received less exploration. https://scim.ag/6Pm
