What we do as a business plays a pivotal role in the country’s economy and infrastructure. We are positive about the signs from government that it wants to get Britain building again but we also know it is important to do that in as sustainable a way as possible. Our low carbon Foamix and carbon neutral Foamix Eco product are prime examples of putting that into practice on major road projects by building new from old. By milling old roads and reusing it into a new product we are able to include up to 92 per cent of recycled content. #getbritainbuilding #sustainableconstruction #buildingprogress

Building new from old is easier than you think! When working on the A46 Warwick bypass, it was agreed that fully recycling the existing carriageway would be the greenest and most cost-effective solution. All the existing tar-bound material would be recycled back into the new carriageway using our ex-situ cold recycled Foamix solution – approximately 42,997 tonnes of material was reused. In wood we trust, and we believe woodworking and kiln drying can play a crucial role in the green transition when powered by renewable energy and sustainable methods. "3Rs" — Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, were useful in the past, but they do not reflect today’s approach to sustainability. Recycling is never 100%, and treats symptoms rather than the root causes of wastes. This linear perspective, “take-make-dispose", will always end up producing waste and environmental costs. #Circulareconomy, #EPR, and #ecosystem #regeneration need to become our standard practices. 🌍 It's National Recycling Week and a great time to reflect on the role of recycling in driving sustainability!    The UK construction industry is a significant contributor to waste generation, producing about 61% of the country's total waste. Approximately 13% of construction waste still goes directly to landfill, which is below the target of diverting 99% from landfills. Building a waste-free society with #circularity is a collective effort involving our partners, customers and regulators to implement #circulareconomy principles effectively. Shifting incentives to favour recycling over disposal is key; prioritising products that align with circular economy principles and banning landfilling of recyclable products are crucial steps. Ambitious countries like #Germany and #Austria have already acted, banning landfilling of recyclable construction materials starting from January 2024 and 2027, respectively.
