At Materiom, we’ve been proud to contribute to the CiD project, an innovation ecosystem advancing circular design for a sustainable future. Over the past year, CiD has hosted events in Venice, Hannover, Genoa, and Barcelona, fostering collaboration on circular economy strategies, urban transformation for climate neutrality, and bio-innovation for construction and renovation. The first year was crucial for building connections across universities, companies, organizations, and incubators, creating a vibrant network of diverse perspectives. Through discussions with European and local observatories, we’ve identified key challenges, defined necessary skills, and shaped an educational program to meet these needs. CiD’s research and innovation focus on three dimensions: 1️⃣ Circular design for carbon-neutral cities 2️⃣ Bio-based innovation for sustainable buildings 3️⃣ Rethinking design for the circular economy This foundation led to the creation of three groundbreaking educational programs, including 10 courses (academic, accelerator, and continuing education) designed to integrate interdisciplinary expertise. We’re excited to see how the project continues to grow and innovate in 2025! 🌍💡 #CircularDesign #Sustainability #Innovation #RegenerativeMaterials #CircularEconomy #ClimateAction

This is how the change happens. On Tuesday we held the first workshop of the Nordic Circular Design Programme for 31 companies. Executive track workshop was run by Ethica Finland and focused on the market changes and EU regulation. The R&D track workshop was by DDC – Danish Design Center focusing on circular product design strategies. On Wednesday we held the last workshop of the Estonian Circular Design Masterclass for 10 companies together with BDA Consulting, EIS and 10 Estonian Design Leads. I got to experience how the mindsets start shifting. What previously was unknown or seemed impossible, starts making business sense. This is how the change happens. SELUX UNFOLDED: IV/24 Circular Light Profiles - With our Circular Light Profiles, we have developed an innovative technology that scientifically adapts light to the specific needs of humans and animals throughout the day and year. Featuring five distinct circular light profiles—ranging from white light to red-spectrum lighting—our solution provides optimal protection for nature and insects while enhancing safety and aesthetic appeal in outdoor spaces. As a result of this achievement, we were honored with the BSFZ Seal of Innovation Competence by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research for 2024. https://lnkd.in/ecepVFMG

The first DeCo Round Table discussion took place today! The topic was sustainable design for business and it was introduced by Jussi Korhonen from Arctic Factory | Palvelumuotoilu. We discussed the challenges, cooperation and opportunities there are in sustainable business around Europe. We noticed that there are similar problems as well as opportunities for change everywhere. The most important takeaway: We are not alone in this. Cooperation, discussion and sharing can make all the difference. This is a good start. DeCo – Design Collaboration for Sustainable Business – is an Interreg Europe project which aims at improving local, regional and national development policies in sustainable and circular design, production and manufacturing. This is achieved through the exchange of experience, innovative approaches and capacity building. Lead Prtner: LAB University of Applied Sciences Project partners: Päijät-Hämeen liitto, Public Institution for the Development of the Međimurje County REDEA, Regional Development Fund of Central Macedonia, International Hellenic University, The Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Services and Navigation of Spain, Podkarpackie Centrum Innowacji, Moravian-Silesian Innovation Centre Ostrava, Wallonie Design, Design Forum Finland #interregeurope #designcollaboration
