Three pieces of advice from a super high performer. Manchester Pathfinders had the pleasure of interviewing one of RBC Brewin Dolphin's business leaders, Annabel Bosman. Annabel is a Regional Centre Head in London, tasked with reviewing growth initiatives, channels, opportunities and how we need to structure ourselves to capitalise on this. She is en exceptionally high performer. Here's three key points from our conversation: 1. When starting out, you’ve got to ‘do your time’ on the jobs you dislike, so eventually, you can focus on the things that play to your strengths 2. Take a step back from the day job to write a career business plan and don’t feel guilty for doing so 3. Be deliberate in matching teams, working with clients and communicating ideas to team members based on their behavioural styles and preferences #growth #growthmindset #intrapreneur #Wealthmanagement

In a founder-led business, succession planning can be particularly challenging. Yet at some point in every successful business, there will come a time when it's necessary for the founders to step back and let someone else take the reins. When flourishing media agency december19 | B Corp™ co-founders Dave Barnett and Dan Pimm came to this realisation themselves, they knew they wanted someone internal to step up to the MD role. They also knew they, and the thriving company culture they'd worked so hard to build, would benefit from expert help in guiding the process. In our latest client success story, the founders explore their reasons for stepping back and the transformational impact of the work undertaken by People Director Helen Witt to support them in their ambitions. It's a story that will likely be familiar to many other business owners and leaders, and is a real testament to the co-founders' dedication to the the team and its culture. "People before profits?” 25 years ago, I had my first team of 6 fresh graduates to manage. I didn't have a clue! 😂 I thought being a good manager meant surpassing targets at any cost, having extreme fun even if it meant turning the office into a gladiatorial arena, and dealing with team hangovers twice a week. Out of those 6, 2 were fired, 2 were just plodding along, and 2 were absolute stars. Shoutout to Veronique Cotrel, Managing Director of One Health Communications, and Steve Lappin, Managing Director of Barclaycard international. As we venture into the world of AI-focused business, one thing remains clear: people are the key to success. As a business grows beyond the stage of managing it by simply chatting at people's desks, what makes a business thrive (funding, technology and expertise aside), where clients want to work with you, and where our people go beyond just doing a good job to truly thriving in their work? A couple of years ago, I asked Sandy Royden about her vision for her already incredible global business, to which Sandy replied, "To be the most respected." The smartest leaders I've worked with, are also, unequivocally the most respected. Sure, all commercial businesses exist to make profit. Let's be real here, but there's a line. The absolute way we do business is making sure our people feel valued and respected. It's all about finding that perfect balance. #peoplepossible #team #aiandml #officewithaview #leadership #womenentrepreneurs

Helping SMEs Get Financial Insight To Grow Profitability and Thrive. Flexible, Cost-Effective Solution. Portfolio Finance Director | Part-Time CFO | Consultant | Group Courses for Aspiring Portfolio FDs
When was the last time you experienced a ‘pinch me’ moment? 4 years ago I started my business, just me, fuelled by a lot of passion, and a vision of what could be 👀 This week I am living that vision (eek!) - and sharing it with Wainwright’s very first employees! I am so pleased to welcome Clare Layton as Content Marketing & Community Manager and Gem Spencer as PA and Ops Manager - a monumental business milestone that makes me so excited for the road ahead 🚗 Reflecting on the journey, here are a few things that have made all the difference: 👉 Prioritising relationships: Building strong relationships with clients, partners, and fellow entrepreneurs that share the same values has been key to growth. Collaboration and community are what hold you up. 👉 Staying adaptable: The road is rarely straightforward. Flexibility has allowed me to pivot when needed, learn from challenges, and seize new opportunities. 👉 Invest in people: As I step into my role as leader, I’m reminded that a business is only as strong as its team. Hiring isn’t just about filling roles - it's about finding individuals who share the vision and can help take it further. 👉 Celebrate the Wins: It’s easy to get caught up in the daily grind, but taking a moment to acknowledge milestones, from the small, to the big - like this one, is essential. Remind yourself how far you’ve come and use that motivation for the journey ahead. Here’s to growth, new beginnings, and many more milestones to come - pinch me! #SmallBusiness #Entrepreneurship #Leadership #Teamwork #BusinessMilestone #portfoliofd #parttimefd #fractionalcfo #finance #insight #smetips

Outside Leadership Can Save the Family Business The Scots say, “The father buys, the son builds, the grandchild sells, and his son begs.” The family enterprise needs a disciplined recruiting process designed to find experienced talent ideally suited to fill the role. One added caveat: they must be the kind of person looking to develop younger leaders around them—including members of the family that owns the business. Here is how to find the next generation Leaders: 🔺 Be real about what the business needs and how the new hire can help achieve it. 🔺 Run a full search process, interviewing 4-8 of the best candidates to understand available talent and their skill levels. Be methodical and objective. 🔺 Hire the best candidate, whether that’s from the inside or outside, based on their career history, their interview, their assessment results and the needs of the business at present and in the next few years. 🔺 If family members fall short in the process, clearly identify the gaps in their skills/experience, and hire them in a lower role with a disciplined development program that expedites their development. 🔺 Recognize that some family members care deeply about the business but are more interested in being a steward (i.e. a good owner) of a family asset (the business) rather than a manager of that business. Changes in a family business require a courageous leap for enterprises accustomed to being led and managed only by family members. The first step forward is for family members to realize they must take a step backward. #WednesdayWisdom #WednesdayThoughts #MindSet #DoTheRightThing #BringBusinessToNewLevels
