As we celebrate our independence – Canada Day on July 1 and Independence Day in the U.S. on July 4 – let’s take time to give thanks for the sacrifice of those who have fought for our freedom and defend it still today. And remember, there is still much to be done to ensure equity and inclusion for all people. Enjoy the weekend and please be safe! Let’s make this an incident-free holiday.

trudeau is trying to play on fairness for all, the budget includes an increase in capital gains which libs/ndp claim will force the "ultimately rich" to pay more in taxes evening out the field. BS! Ultra rich are not the only ones affected, our parents, our doctors, our innovators will all be forced to pay. Our parents had more, damn right they did, more opportunities to work hard, live well and save for their future which includes ours as well. How is trudeau evening out the lopsided playing field, by taxing our parents out of their well deserved investment in their retirement. Absolutely not fair in any sense and will not help the younger generation whatsoever. He is protecting the ultra rich while wiping out the middle class. Talk about fairness, he is full of shit. Shamelessly taxing us out of what we deserve, the carbon tax is taking more out of our pockets, more food out of our mouths and causing less homes to be built, whether they are affordable or not. He is a dictator not a leader, impoverishing us, not lifting us up and out of the misery he is responsible for causing. A true leader would help citizens, not impoverish any & would not with intent destroy us & our country's economy. He is a destroyer not a leader.
MP for Carleton, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, and running to be Prime Minister of Canada
After 9 years of Trudeau, young people who did everything right can't afford the same life their parents had. Common sense Conservatives will restore the promise of Canada and bring home a country that works for the people who do the work.

My Incredibly Biased Take on Jamaican Independence Day 💚💛🖤 In 1962 Jamaica gained independence (sort of) from the British Crown; and somewhat promptly (within a few days) dispatched their first dignitary – to Ottawa. Yes, the first country to establish diplomatic ties with Jamaica was Canada. I know this not because I am a bit of a political history nerd (although I am) but because that diplomat – Jamaica’s first High Commissioner in Ottawa, was my great-grandfather Earle Maynier. This wasn’t the first time Earle had lived in Canada, having taught at the University of Toronto, after gaining a degree from the London School of Economics; legend has it, he was dispatched to Ottawa owing largely to being the most senior political figure/civil servant in Jamaica who happened to speak French. About a decade ago, my friend Ruby Latif sat me down over some AYCE Sushi and laid down some hard truths, urging me to remember that my background gives me a head start over many young women of colour – because I had the opportunity to learn at home how networking works in the Canadian context. Often when I face adversity, I wonder to myself, is it because of the colour of my skin? Would a man, especially a white man, be treated differently? The answer often is ‘probably’. But alas, there is often nothing to be done but to hold my head high and soldier on. Each Jamaican Independence Day, I stop to consider my incredible ‘head start’ relative to many second-generation Canadians; and resolve to continue to do whatever I can to help others overcome even larger barriers.

Canada Day commemorates the British North America Act of 1867, which united three British colonies into the Dominion of Canada. Initially known as Dominion Day, the holiday became official in 1879. Historian Forrest Pass explains that the date was chosen for administrative reasons rather than revolutionary significance. Early celebrations were spontaneous and locally organized, often inspired by American Independence Day traditions. The festivities included a 'Dominion Salute' of one gun for each province, mirroring the American 'Federal Salute.' It wasn't until 1982 that Dominion Day was officially renamed Canada Day, reflecting a shift in national identity. This change paralleled other national symbols, such as the adoption of the maple leaf flag in 1965 and "O Canada" as the national anthem in 1980. Today's celebrations highlight Canada's multicultural and bilingual nature, moving away from its British colonial roots. Ottawa, the nation's capital, hosts significant celebrations on Parliament Hill. The Royal Canadian Air Force often features prominently in the festivities, adding to the patriotic atmosphere. Live musical performances and fireworks displays are common, with Canadians across the country participating in various local traditions, from barbecues to pancake breakfasts. Canada Day is a time for Canadians to come together and celebrate their shared heritage and evolving national identity. Britain not occupy Continental Europe after defeating Napoleon- Reasons: 1. British Empire had already experienced challenges in governing territories closer to home. The American Revolutionary War had resulted in the loss of thirteen colonies, which later formed the United States. 2. The subsequent Napoleonic Wars had placed a significant strain on British resources and led to public discontent. As a result, the empire may have been wary of further territorial expansion, especially on a continent where it would face potential resistance and difficulties in administration. 3. In fact, an English victory may have had the opposite affect you suggest, and left England a defacto (if not dejure) province of France. Since the Norman Conquest, England's monarchy had spoken French. They only adopted English and reintroduced it as the language of English government during their prolonged conflict with France. 4. Hence, The French speaking English elite may have likely made France their primary seat of power, reducing England to a secondary power going forward, rather than the global superpower it eventually became. #Indonordicassociation(dot)org Indo Nordic Strategic Association, India https://qr.ae/ps87TM

😰 Sri Lanka is too hot these days. Scientists claim it's due to the climate change. "Increased heat stress is an indication of climate change, and a recent study found that deadly heat stress is becoming a common occurrence across South Asia even with 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) global warming. Lareef Zubair, a scientist at the Foundation for Environment, Climate, and Technology (FECT) said heat stress in Sri Lanka is rising to dangerous levels for a larger share of the population due to climate change. Sri Lankans are now experiencing more warm nights compared with cold nights. A study found that annually averaged mean minimum temperatures are increasing, reducing the gap between maximum and minimum temperatures. Temperatures in Sri Lanka have been rising faster than the global average at about 1.8 degrees Celsius (3.24 degrees Fahrenheit) per decade, Zubair said." Source: https://lnkd.in/gk2bTjf2 Ohh wait that means..... 😵 I wonder whether the democratic decline came first or the climate change, in global south. Can't wait to see the study results. #democracy #climatechange

The article effectively highlights the decline of Canada's once strong and decisive stance in foreign policy under Justin Trudeau's leadership. The recent response to the terrorist attack on Israel serves as a prime example of this weakened position. This shift from being a respected world leader to a mere distraction is indeed a national embarrassment that will require significant effort to rebuild and repair in the years to come. “It’s become crystal clear why there have been four ministers of foreign affairs in the past five years under the Trudeau Liberals: it is that they are a rudderless ship with no vision for how Canada should be represented on the world stage. The prime minister’s leadership has been catastrophic for Canadian foreign policy.” Liberal Party of Canada • Parti Libéral du Canada New Democratic Party of Canada

Delighted to witness a poignant moment in diplomatic history as Prime Minister Modi welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron to India as the Chief Guest for the 75th Republic Day celebrations. The symbolism behind the gift—a replica of the majestic Shri Ram Mandir—is a testament to the profound cultural and spiritual ethos that defines India. The Shri Ram Mandir holds immense significance for millions of Indians, representing not just a place of worship but a repository of cultural heritage and historical continuity. Prime Minister Modi's gesture of presenting this replica to President Macron is a powerful demonstration of India's commitment to fostering global understanding through the lens of its rich traditions. In a world where cultural diplomacy plays an increasingly crucial role, this exchange goes beyond the realms of politics. It transcends borders and language, emphasizing the universal values of peace, harmony, and coexistence. The Shri Ram Mandir, with its timeless architecture and spiritual resonance, becomes a bridge connecting diverse civilizations. As India and France come together in celebration of Republic Day, the presentation of the Shri Ram Mandir replica signifies a shared appreciation for cultural diversity and mutual respect. It echoes the sentiment that, despite geographical distances, nations can find common ground through understanding and appreciation of each other's heritage. Only a century ago, Native peoples, the original inhabitants of these lands, were conferred U.S. citizenship. With this new status, we should have had the same power as other citizens to shape America, but it took another 40 years of relentless struggle for all Native peoples to secure the right to vote. 100 years later, we still hold the power to influence decisions to protect our lands and water and uphold our Tribal sovereignty. Showcase #NativePower by resharing this post and join the conversation as we explore the meaning and impact of the 1924 Indian Citizenship Act. #HoldThePower #NativeAmericanCitizenship
