I think this is such a bonkers idea on so many levels 1. It shows us up as weak - we achieve something as a country and we all get on the p*ss and can't be bothered working - what happened to 'what's next' - it's not how winners behave, celebrate yes but train the next day... 2. The pubs will be full anyway, regardless of the next day 3. Not everyone likes football 4. We didn't have (and I don't remember loads of calls for) a bank holiday for the women winning the euros 5. As above for the Cricketers winning the world cup 6. What about other sports or major achievements - we very often punch above our weight in the Olympics - say we finish 3rd in the medals table (which would be a far bigger achievement) do we have another random day off 7. It's too hard to implement at too short notice and won't be a bank holiday for the vast majority 8. What about everyone with a hospital / doctors / dentist etc appointment on Monday - they get cancelled because those workers absolutely should be treated to the treat - retail AND hospitality won't be able to rejig rosters and will have to foot the bill for 'bank holiday' pay 9. Let's not even mention the direct correlation to 'on the p*ss' and the rise in domestic violence Bonkers!

Utterly the worst post I have seen this year

For a start, you can’t put cricket or women’s football on the same level as the men’s Euros. That’s absolutely ludicrous lol They are asking for a bank holiday as quite a lot will be phoning in sick anyway and just saves money in the long run. Then stating people with doctors or dentist appointments will have to reschedule, they have been waiting over 3 weeks for an appointment anyway, so a couple of extra weeks ain’t going to harm them.

You're the stranger at the party that kills the conversation stone dead when I ask "So do you follow football?"

Buzz killington over here 🤣 😴

Why not make St.George’s day a bank holiday instead?

Is it only about football though ? Im not a huge football fan at all, however feeling aligned with the entire country and enjoying the buzz of what we might be about to achieve as a nation definitely makes me want to celebrate and soak up the amazing atmosphere that I have no doubt Sunday will bring, especially in the pub!. I think it's a given that productivity will be less than full throttle on Monday but the appreciation that would be felt by your team for allowing a few hours off the morning after wouldn't be forgotten . My advice to you is get your flag out, paint your face and enjoy😊 Leaders showing recognition for achievement is never weak !

FYI in elite sport the day after match day is ALWAYS either rest or recovery. NOT training. Fair play though, clever bit of semi controversial click bait to get the inevitable nibbles and therefore increased presence on here

Jeez, you definitely need a day off....🙃

You should really look at what Sacha's job is - it's to promote the hospitality industry. They've been through a lot in the last few years, so he is quite rightly advocating for them.
