An excellent initiative with proven positive results.
157 Southfield School, Kettering Year 11s and 30 staff are now on their way to Whitemoor Lakes Activity & Training Centre in Staffordshire for our annual 4 day revision/activity weekend. This will be the ninth year that we have run this activity and each year, the majority of our students claim that this was one of the most successful activities in boosting their GCSE results in the core subjects. Students also comment on how much fun they had and the lasting memories they created whilst there. As part of our new Academy Trust and our ongoing collaboration with other schools, Kingsthorpe College and Moulton School & Science College will also be sending some of their students on the trip. Have a good time everyone and #ReachYourFullPotential

Always a great day marching with Liverpool John Moores University for Pride 🌈 In my semester one module, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging at Liverpool Business School, we’ll be digging into why events like Pride are so crucial for the LGBTQ+ community. This level 6 undergraduate module, part of our HRM degree, will tackle some really important issues. We'll explore the Equality Act and its role in protecting the rights of all LGBTQ+ individuals, ensuring everyone is treated fairly and with respect. We’ll also reflect on the impact of Section 28, a piece of legislation that prohibited the "promotion" of homosexuality by local authorities and schools, and discuss its lingering effects on education and society. Understanding how the history and legacy of such laws influence today's society is vital. For instance, at work, more than a third of LGBTQ+ staff (35%) have hidden their identity for fear of discrimination. Almost one in five (18%) have experienced negative comments or conduct from colleagues because of their identity. In universities, two in five LGBTQ+ students (42%) have hidden their identity due to fear of discrimination, with more than a third of trans students (36%) facing negative comments or conduct from staff. These statistics highlight the ongoing challenges and the importance of creating environments where everyone feels they belong and matter. There’s still much work to be done to ensure that everyone feels valued. I’m excited to engage with our students on these topics and share in their passion for making a difference. 🌈 #Pride #LGBTQ+ #Equality #Section28 #TransInclusion #Diversity #Inclusion #Belonging #LJMU #HRM For more detailed statistics and information, visit Stonewall's website.
