The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) released a data brief highlighting the progress and persistent gaps in healthcare interoperability among non-federal acute care hospitals. Some key findings include: - Larger, urban, and system-affiliated hospitals showed higher engagement in routine interoperability compared to smaller, rural, and independent hospitals. - Hospitals routinely engaging in interoperability reported higher availability and use of patient health information at the point of care, emphasizing its importance for clinical decision support. - Hospitals routinely engaged in interoperable health information exchange had higher rates of patient health information availability (92%) and use at the point of care (70%) compared to those only sometimes engaged.

Hospitals in 2024: Healthcare leaders identify trends to watch: “Hospitals will increasingly invest in technology that improves interoperability, enabling them to better share critical patient information as patients transition across different care teams and facilities. However, a key component of interoperability that often goes overlooked is data usability. By focusing more on the usability of patient data, health systems can ensure clinicians are armed with the best information at the point-of-care to make important decisions about diagnoses and treatment.” ---- Holly Miller, chief medical officer of MedAllies

Ever wondered what helps set top hospitals apart in both management and patient care? It's all about the mix of solid organization, decisive action, and clear communication. This isn't just about running the place well; it directly boosts patient care. The command centers at the Mayo Clinic, for example, are not just data hubs; they're where real-time, impactful decisions are made for patient care. These centers make sure patients receive the right care at just the right time by having key players analyze live data. Johns Hopkins Hospital takes it further with lean management. This means constantly assessing and enhancing patient care flow, ensuring efficient and timely care. So, what's the outcome? A healthcare system that's efficient and deeply committed to top-notch patient care. It's a holistic approach where operational efficiency and patient well-being go hand in hand. 📢 If there’s one trend that has had staying power in American health care, it’s been the rise of the system. Today, roughly two-thirds of American hospitals belong to a health system, up from 10% in 1970, and those systems have inevitably become larger and increasingly diversified providers of care—with some owning physician specialty groups, surgical centers, and home care services among other businesses. In this spirit, Fortune and PINC AI™ 100 TOP HOSPITALS® collaborated to rank the PINC AI™ 15 Top Health Systems™. According to PINC AI’s analysis, if all health systems operated as this year’s winners, more than 207,000 patient lives would be saved and 432,000 patients would be spared in-hospital complications each year.
