TxC Teaser #6: Let’s Stop Rebranding and Start Re-imagining HR. “Personnel”… “Human Resources”… “Human Capital Management”… “Chief People Officer”… “People and Culture”… “Talent and Culture”. Why have we rebranded ourselves so many times? I can’t think of another C-Suite function that has done this. Our intentions have been spot on to try and move up the value chain into more strategic roles. That said when I compare what my teams focussed on 20 years ago to today I worry we may have gone the wrong direction. The core of strategic HR is matching talent to the strategy and purpose of the organization. Leadership assessment, leadership development, and helping people find roles where they can have the most impact have always been major ways HR delivers strategic value. Our near future will stretch leadership in ways we can not even imagine right now. Let’s start here. We will need more than an algorithmic “Ted Talk & TikTok” approach to preparing leaders to overcome future demands. TxC is working on re-imagined leadership development as part of our purpose. I have been looking for research on shifts in leadership development topics and investment levels in the last 30 years. If you have a source or an opinion please include in the comments below. The TxC Leadership Campus launches in February. Please stay tuned and spread the word. Thanks, Matt “Better Humans will need Better Human Resources”
