👀 Probing universality 🔦 So far, theoretical investigations of universality and critical scaling have been mostly limited to homogeneous systems. Nicolò Defenu and his colleagues believe that a deeper understanding of universality in complex physical systems would have implications far beyond physics. In a recent study, they simulated a self-avoiding random walk on a prototypical non-homogeneous system with integer and non-integer dimensions and found evidence of universal scaling. We often say or believe that Quantum physics does not apply to macroscopic objects like humans. The reason we tell ourselves is that the wavelength corresponding to our heavy mass is too small to be detected. But, because it cannot be detected by science or the limited vision of the human eye, this incompetence must not certify that we do not display quantum properties. It is only a matter of time and scientific development that we will understand the game of energy and waves. Optica Quantum [#OPG_OpticaQ] research from Univerzita Palackého v Olomouci displays a new kind of highly nonclassical states: https://bit.ly/3zxpajV The team demonstrated that the addition of photons into multi-mode twin beams makes them attractive for engineered two-photon excitations of atom, molecular, and other material systems under specific conditions. The researchers conclude the beams are promising as the quantum light source for virtual-state entangled-photon spectroscopy. Their findings, just published in Nature Physics, reveal large flows of particles and entropy through the channel. The BES III collaboration may have identified the first-ever glueball, a theoretical particle composed purely of gluons, predicted by quantum chromodynamics. This elusive particle, known as the X(2370), has been detected through high-precision experiments at the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider, potentially providing significant validation for parts of the Standard Model of particle physics. GRAVITY RESEARCH UPDATE Quantum mechanical wormholes fill gaps in black hole entropy 25 Apr 2024 Behind the veil: A black hole's event horizon contains an infinite number of microstates, but expressing these microstates in terms of a finite set of representative quantum superpositions makes it possible to quantify the entropy within.

First experimental evidence of vacuum decay. Researchers led by Alessandro Zenesini of the University of Trento, have produced the first experimental evidence of vacuum decay, the transformation of not-so-stable states into the true stable ones in quantum field theory. In their experiment, they used a supercooled gas at a temperature of less than one microKelvin. At this temperature, the theory predicts that the decay produces bubbles, and these have been observed by the team.
