The integer quantum Hall effect is a quantized version of the Hall effect. It is observed in two-dimensional electron systems at low temperatures and in strong magnetic fields. In this phenomenon, the Hall resistance R_xy exhibits steps that take on the quantized values R_xy = h/(e^2*v), where v is an integer (1,2,3,4....). In a recent experiment titled "Even-integer quantum Hall effect in an oxide caused by a hidden Rashba effect," researchers demonstrated the experimental observation of even-integer quantum Hall states (v=2,4,6....) in few-layer 2D Bi2O2Se films. Optica [#OPG_Optica] research demonstrates a new technique for characterizing structured mid-infrared waveforms: https://bit.ly/3Y21Bu0 The method, which uses only a two-dimensional silicon-based image sensor as both the detector and the nonlinear medium, enables the full characterization of structured electric fields. The University of Central Florida team found that the method significantly reduced the complexity of detection compared to other techniques. When atoms like it exotic... and find the perfect match... 💑 🌟 In the case of ‘true tauonium’, the perfect match is particle-antiparticle (which dance a little and then annihilate, releasing energy). Let me explain: 🔹 Unlike ‘normal’ atoms, which consist of a nucleus and electrons, the ‘true tauonium’ would consist of the tau particle, a heavy cousin of the electron, and its respective positively charged antiparticle, called the antitau. Obviously, this is an unstable system with a very short life span. 🔹 Of these exotic atoms (called ‘onia’), whose two components are bound exclusively by electromagnetic interaction, two have already been observed, positronium (electron+positron) and muonium (electron+antimuon). 🔹 The existence of true tauonium has been speculated but not yet confirmed. 🔹 Now a group of scientists has come up with a new approach for its search, which would make use of a new particle accelerator that collides electrons and positrons, the construction of which has been proposed in both China and Russia. 🔹 The eventual discovery of true tauinium would allow us to expand our knowledge of bound states and fundamental interactions. I'm excited to announce the latest in a 3-part series: https://lnkd.in/gE5dwmM2 We present a new technique for analyzing entanglement evolution in quantum circuits, which we use to derive an upper-bound on #entanglement achievable using n-qubit Clifford gates, on any arbitrary quantum state. While we focus on Clifford gates in this paper, our methods are sufficiently general to study universal gate sets, as well as alternative state properties.
