Hi Network! I made the difficult decision to resign from my role. I am excited about what the future holds and just as energized and ready to learn as day 1, but this time with 14+ years experience (in #retail, #apparel, #merchandising, #buying, and #ecommerce) and ready to find my next role that allows me to #mentor the next wave of retail! I love using #data to build compelling and engaging stories to build #trust and gain buy-in with both internal and external partners and stakeholders. I enjoy taking the customer on a journey of #discovery, giving her what she wants, when she wants it, and more importantly what she didn't even know she wanted. Creating an #assortment that the customer will look at and say, "Wow, I have to have this!" is my #passion. #Strategizing and putting the big picture together is my jam, but the thrill of finding a little nugget of information to exploit and build off of is just as intoxicating. It's important for me to #lead, not manage. I want my team to be able to run when I'm not there. I don't see this as being replaceable, I see this as me doing a damn good job utilizing strengths, putting processes in place for efficiency, and creating a space of psychological safety for the team to think strategically and take initiative. I love apparel, but am also interested in expanding my knowledge outside of this category, whether in #sports, #home, #toys or #cpg. This is the same person in the same year. A Head of ecommerce - the generalist specialist. Brands need to know what shape this takes before hiring. A common hiring mistake is hiring the right person at the wrong time. I've recently changed industry and I've found it bloody hard. My career started in HR but during Covid I made the jump to sales - HR tech sales - so still relevant. 💪 I felt like I knew my shit... 💪 Working for a disruptor brand, changing the entire way of running payroll was an educational sell and I loved the challenge. Then when I changed vertical 😬 I felt like I knew jack shit 😬 I'm selling in to E-Commerce and... it's a whole different thing. There are so many personas in both Agencies & Brands AND you have to be ✨extra creative✨ to spark any interest in what's a very over-sold space. I've messaged what feels like hundreds of ecom peeps to see if anyones open to mentoring me but I still haven't had a reply yet 😒 Don't get me wrong, the tides are starting to turn as ecom teams look for efficiency gains in advance of Q4. However, I'm still always eager to learn at what I can do more of, what I can do better. Does anyone know either: 👊 An agency who works with brands / online retailers / merchants to improve conversion rates 👊 Someone working in an E-Commerce role and responsible for checkout 👊 Anybody working in Sales who has changed verticals That would be happy to share their experinence and knowledge? ⁉ eCommerce is the great equalizer in the retail and shopper marketing space. You know why? Because the industry, at the advent of Retail Media has changed so drastically, years of experience matter less. Take these two sample candidates when hiring for a Retail Media Lead: 1️⃣ Candidate 1: - 5 years of Retail Media Experience - 20 years of shopper marketing experience - Salary Expectation: $250k 2️⃣ Candidate 2: - 5 Years of Retail Media Experience - 0 Years Shopper Marketing Experience - Salary Expectation: $75k 😬 While I mean no offense to those who have deep experience in commerce and the retail world, you can see that there is a clear advantage for newcomers to the space. 😮 For an agency or brand looking to fill a role, they can do so with a seasoned leader who only at the tail end of their career learned retail media, or a candidate who's entire professional career has been focused on Retail Media. 😁 There are certainly companies who need leaders and not just expertise, but for an industry so new, we are short on knowledge, and deep on experience in other spaces. 💲 While every situation is different, you can see the appeal of a newer talent to the space, simply based on cost. #ecommerce #retailmedia #shoppermarketing

****Account Management Hiring in Retail Media**** When I set up Vertical Advantage I had restrictions from working with 144 retailers / consumer brands for a year. I hadn't run my own desk for 2 years & wanted to build an desk connected to my network - I chose the data & loyalty space within agencies & in my first couple months I placed talent with 5one (now Mastercard) and Ogilvy. Soon afterwards I developed a great relationship with Aimia Inc (thanks Bradley Winstanley) and as this market evolved, we built more and more relationships within the Retail Media space. What I love about hiring here is that the pool of talent & transferable skills is so broad in this space and you can excel in this space coming from various markets - here's some skills / market thoughts to consider if hiring in the space: Retail - Buying, Partnerships, Marketing, Category Management & eComm; FMCG - Trade / Shopper Marketing, Category Management, National Accounts & Insights; Media - all aspects of the media industry but publishing / traditional print often transitions well & have great retail understanding; Agencies / Platforms - more obvious but data literacy is key when hiring talent in this space & those within the more creative markets can often struggle in retail media; What have I missed? #RetailMedia #Hiring #Skills
