If we want a clean and truly different food system, we need to think about our supply chains in a whole new way -- one that is a win for ALL participants, not just a select few. What Colleen Kavanagh and Joni Kindwall-Moore have created with CIVC is unlike anything I have ever seen, and it is one of the most hopeful things that exists in the organic food industry today. It is next-level brilliant and badly needed. Read all about it in this week's Organic Insider. https://lnkd.in/e5KpvDaq #organic #organicfood #cpg #naturalproducts

How many times can you re-boil milk? Is there a right way to boil milk in the first place? Choose farm fresh organic raw milk if you want to boil milk before use, as pasteurized milk is already boiled to 72 degrees centigrade before it is packed. Re-boiling it will result in the loss of micronutrients. While boiling milk, it is essential to use low to medium heat to avoid scalding and sticking to the bottom of the pan. Slowly bring the milk to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally to distribute the heat evenly. It is recommended that you boil milk only once and consume it Repeated boiling of milk can also reduce the amount of vitamins and other micronutrients. At Akshayakalpa Organic, we have different types of organic milk for different purposes. You can choose from farm-fresh raw milk that requires boiling or enjoy the convenience of no-boiling-required pasteurized milk or on-the-go milk. If you like a creamier mouthfeel and don't like that malai layer separating from the top in your chai/coffee, you can opt for our homogenized milk. #organicmilk #akshayakalpaorganic #organicfood #organicfarming #akshayakalpa #boilingmilk #homogenisedmilk #rawmilk

At my house, the general rule is that we buy organic if we eat the peel, and we buy conventional if we don’t eat the peel. Thus, we almost always buy organic apples and strawberries, but we don’t always buy organic bananas or avocados. The Environmental Working Group (EWG) is a tremendous resource with free information that will allow you to do a deeper dive into the world of organic food if you’d like. The EWG puts out a list every year called the Dirty Dozen, which are the twelve most pesticide-laden vegetables and fruits. If budget is a big concern, then I recommend you prioritize buying these organically. The EWG also publishes the Clean Fifteen, which is a list of the conventionally grown vegetables and fruits you can buy with the least pesticide residue. These lists will get you started in the world of buying organic. If you eat the peels, you’ll want to wash your produce thoroughly, especially if you didn’t buy organic. Most of us just rinse our produce under running water before we use it, but recognize that friction is your friend, meaning a little elbow grease with a vegetable brush is helpful. If you’re more serious about reducing pesticide exposure, you can use a dilute solution of apple cider vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, or baking soda to clean your produce. Some newer evidence suggests that a baking soda soak might be the best way to clean produce. When washing fruits and vegetables, simply soak them in a bowl of water with a teaspoon of baking soda for at least a minute. If you have fifteen minutes, soak them longer. Then swish them around and drain. I recommend prioritizing your supermarket spending on organic vegetables that you eat without peeling, like celery and spinach. That said, I have found that organic vegetables generally taste better, so I tend to buy organic whenever I can. . . . . . #integrativemedicine #integrativehealth #foodismedicine #foodismedicineformybody #foodlover #foodstagram #glutenfree #healingjourney #healingfoods #healthandwellness #healthcoach #healthiswealth #holistichealing #holistichealth #hormoneimbalance #herbsandspices #medicalmedium #herbsforhealth #naturalcures #naturalremedies #nutritionaltherapy #obesity #organicveggies #paleodiet #plantfueled #plantforward #thyroid #thyroidproblems #growingvegetables #womenshealth

And as usual, there is certainly data on the topic, but analyzed in small doses with blinders on can lead to many different stories. Did you know... 1. There are many different marketing labels: "100% organic", "organic", "made with organic", "local organic", "local" 2. 🌱 Organic food trends around the world 🌍 Denmark for the win! It's fascinating to see how different countries embrace organic food! In Denmark, a whopping 15% of food sales are organic. Austria, Luxembourg, and Switzerland aren't far behind, each maintaining a strong organic market. Also taking into account country size, the United States still had the largest market for organic food out of any country despite a lower share of organic food at 7.2 percent of all food sales in 2023. So, what's your take—do you watch what you eat? Are organic foods a part of your regular daily routine?
