IBM CTO ♦ Digitally-savvy and Cyber-savvy Board Director ♦ CEO Advisor ♦ Competent Boards Faculty ♦ Making Purpose Real Through Board Excellence ♦ Global Perspective, Digital Transformation, AI, Cybersecurity, ESG Expert
Many of my CEO and Board Director friends know my passion and my playbook for creating good jobs that can gain a competitive long-term advantage. My conversation with Delta Air Lines Board Director, Chris Hazleton was enlightening and touched my heart, as my Dad was the leader of the Majdoor Union at Indian Railways.
Chris, with his profound experience at Air Line Pilots Association and as the Chairman of the Delta MEC Strategic Planning Committee, showcases how vital metrics and management language are important in steering boardroom discussions toward actionable strategies. 📊
His approach goes beyond mere numbers; it is about instilling a systems-thinking mindset that champions both safety and the value offered to employees. This is how you create a legacy of good jobs, which directly translates to competitive longevity. ✨
To all my fellow CEOs and Board Directors, let's continue to raise the bar in improving front-line jobs with operational excellence which can lead to higher productivity and increased competitiveness.

After completing my 12th Budget review at A&M you would be right in asking, “Why are you excited?” ”What’s so special about completing a budget?” And after having done it 12 times... , should this not just be a templated process!!
Firstly, our growth rate has been so phenomenal and in so many diverse areas (people, services and geographies) that a simple extrapolation of the history towards the future is irrelevant.
But secondly and most importantly, our budgeting process is a review of the people that we have the new leaders that are joining us and the clients that are asking for our expertise.
This makes each budget unique (even exciting) and, in many ways, a “new” budget every time we put it together.
Lastly, and what I love about A&M is that budgets and goals are outcomes we might likely achieve, but they do not drive our culture or our behaviours. This means that as soon as the budget is done, we start updating, in real-time, based on actual events. We respond quickly to client and market changes rather than stick to outdated budgets.

Just finished 2024 Budget reviews of our EMEA units with Gerard Bredenoord, Alex Parkes, Fabrizio GASPERONI, and Richard Fleming. It's a cold winter day, but good reviews. There is a continuing strong demand for our services and overall momentum across the board. Our obsession with quality of service and delivery of results will always be our key differentiator. We expect our senior leaders to be hands-on and on the ground.

First 100 Days at Boeing: Kelly Ortberg's Powerful First Steps as CEO. Kelly Ortberg has just stepped into one of the most challenging CEO roles in corporate America, taking the helm at Boeing during a turbulent time.
In his first day on the job, Ortberg has already made a bold move by relocating his office from Boeing HQ in Virginia to Washington, closer to the front lines of Boeing's commercial aircraft operations. It's there that lack of management presence may have caused one crash after the next.
In my book, Your First 100 Days in a New Executive Role, I emphasize the importance of taking three symbolic actions within the first 72 hours. These actions set the tone for leadership and signal a commitment to the path of greatness.
Kelly has already taken one such step by physically positioning himself where the company needs him most—right in the heart of production. This decision demonstrates his focus on rebuilding trust and tackling the complex challenges facing Boeing head-on.
Ortberg’s choice to be near the factory floor in Renton, Washington, shows that he understands the value of leading from the trenches. It’s a promising start that aligns with the principles I advocate for in any successful leadership transition.
Kelly's next 99 days will be pivotal, and if his first move is any indication, Boeing is on the path to reclaiming its position as an industry leader. Here’s to leadership that doesn’t just talk about change but embodies it from day one.

Jetcraft Restructures US Leadership with New Regional Vice Presidents
How will leadership changes impact Jetcraft’s growth in North America? Jetcraft has appointed Chris William Hollingsworth and Sean O'Leary as regional vice presidents for the Central and East Coast US, respectively, marking a significant restructuring of its US leadership. Both bring extensive experience in managing complex business aviation transactions, with Hollingsworth leading in the Midwest and South Central regions, and O’Leary overseeing the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Southeast.
With the US market continuing to drive demand for pre-owned business jets, these appointments will play a critical role in Jetcraft’s North American growth strategy.
What does this mean for Jetcraft’s future expansion?
