Throughout my election campaign, people raised the issue of safer neighbourhoods and rising anti-social behaviour. It's also important to make sure visitors to our region feel that they're in safe hands. That's why I'm proud to support Derbyshire Police and Crime Commissioner's new policing survey which gives you a say in how Derbyshire Constabulary works. Public inquiries are set up to consider incidents of major public concern. Currently these include undercover policing, the Grenfell Tower fire, the Post Office Horizon scandal and the Covid-19 pandemic. A new House of Lords committee has been set up to consider the way these inquiries work. It will be exploring issues including the time and cost of inquiries. Excellent analysis of what's been happening in the country, from a public sector comms viewpoint. And a useful reminder of this distinction: misinformation (accidental), disinformation (deliberate).
I've blogged. Southport and the two questions the incident poses to all public sector comms for emergency planning 3.0. Firstly, understranding hyperlocal comms with Facebook groups and WhatsApp. Secondly, challenging the disinformation that comes with it. This may be relevant for you sooner rather than later if the rioting continues. Hats off to Merseyside Police, Sefton Council, Mersey & West Lancs NHS and Merseyside Fire & Rescue in this case and to others who are tackling similar issues across England.
