Look, no one gives a sh-- about your processes. As a Construction Manager, you learn processes your company goes through for everything. It's helpful to know what's important and how they want it done but that's not enough. 🌶Construction doesn't fit in a one sized fits all like a company's processes. This is why most people never become more than a Project Manager after DECADES. They know how to follow the rules, but company rules aren't necessarily even legal. Story time: I had an admin person from a general contractor tell me we weren't receiving our check (again now 5 weeks late, pay when paid), because the project manager still hadn’t checked a box on their accounting system on the Wednesday before it was processed to be paid. 👉Again, no one gives a sh-- about your processes. 🔥What matters is doing what's right by the client, vendor, subcontractor, basically anyone and by the contract. If you can learn how to get sh-- done when processes go against what's right, you're going to be an executive. It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when and it's sooner than you think. PS. A to-do list. Every morning when I start work, I go through pages of notes from prior days looking for anything that is incomplete. Then I start adding the new tasks that need done to achieve our daily/weekly/monthly goals. 2. What is the most important lesson that you’ve learned from working with the team? The most important lesson I've learned is to be flexible. With the continued growth of H&P Construction, the priorities change at the drop of a hat. 3. I've recently been a 'bidan terjun'!. Since the position of Project Planner/Cost Controller still vacant (for one of our projects), I took up that place as replacement & construct the schedule from initiation till commision. But I'm writing this today not to go on details of the project, its a tips I would share, at least the basis of every time I conduct the baseline or WBS for each phases. Why: Why is the project being put into motion? Why is it valuable? What problems does it address? What: What tasks and activities should be performed to complete the project? What are the project’s deliverables? Who: Who will be involved? What are their roles and responsibilities? When: When is the project slated for completion? At what point in the project’s timeline should milestones be achieved? Hope this would help to at least have an idea how to plan a project.
