Older adults and other vulnerable New Yorkers deserve a safe place to call home when living at home is no longer an option. Inadequate Medicaid rates exacerbate challenges in finding quality nursing home staff. Staffing challenges impact access to quality care. With 5,600 fewer nursing home beds available today than in 2019, it’s time for New York to make older adults a priority in the State Budget! NO MORE EXCUSES! @Governor Kathy Hochul, @Andrea Stewart-Cousins & @Carl E. Heastie, please ensure that nursing home residents can receive the quality care they need, close to home and their loved ones, by providing a 10.5% INCREASE to nursing home Medicaid rates and requiring that reimbursement be updated at least every 5 yrs! Right now, rates are based on 2007 costs. It is time to REFORM this broken system! #NursingHomeSOS https://lnkd.in/eDNAHxdx

Deputy Executive Director | Driving policy impact and financial optimization through robust Government affairs expertise.
Home visits are a critical way for the industry to build understanding and true legislative champions for our issues. Sometimes, until a legislator sees and feels what it's like to get care in the home, they don't get it. These are crucial to understanding the importance and value of being cared for in the home.
Thank you Senator Rosemary Brown for taking the time to meet with Ashley and her mom, Joan, to learn more about Medicaid shift care nursing challenges in Pennsylvania and the critical need for additional funding. Thank you, Senator, for your understanding and support of this critical issue! Pennsylvania Homecare Association #SupportCareNow

The vast majority of hospitalizations are among patients 65 years and older due to their comorbid chronic illnesses and their requirement for age-appropriate care management. While the aging population increases, nursing home availability and state funding for home-and community-based services have decreased. As a result, CMS care model PACE, has boosted growth. HMA is available to help organizations develop PACE capabilities from concept to implementation and beyond, including post-implementation and ongoing PACE operations. With only 36 days left until the #PBJ deadline, it's crucial to ensure you are reporting your data correctly. Did you know that NY state's Nursing Home Quality Initiative (NHQI) program calculates 3 of its 15 quality initiatives based on #PBJ data? Agency percentage, total nursing HPPD, and total nursing turnover all get factored in, with additional Medicaid funding dependent on the quality initiative score. Don't risk missing out on funding - if you're unsure about the quality of your reporting, reach out to us for a one time analysis. #BoostedAnalytical #NotPeanutButterAndJelly

Quality #nursinghome care is not a burden! Research consistently shows that higher staff-to-resident ratios lead to better outcomes for residents, including reduced rates of infections, fewer falls, and improved overall quality of life. By opposing the implementation of a federal staffing standard minimum rule, legislators fail to prioritize the well-being of vulnerable older adults in Kansas and across the nation. https://lnkd.in/gmHZYrga

The importance of overhauling Nursing Home Medicaid Funding in New York State for the continued provision of quality care for older adults cannot be overstated. On average, New York’s Nursing Home Medicaid rates cover only 75% of the cost of care. Improved funding is critical for The Wesley Community to continue serving families with seniors battling Alzheimer’s Disease, dementia, and other health complications. Current restrictions on nursing home admissions not only impact seniors but also contribute to hospital discharge delays and emergency room congestion, impeding healthcare access for All New Yorkers. Say NO to Governor Hochul’s Nursing Home Cuts and urge legislators to include a 16% increase in Medicaid and Rebase Rates. Send Legislators a digital letter today and help us stand up against these cuts! https://p2a.co/GKkcAQE Urge Elected Officials to Stop Shortchanging the Most Vulnerable New Yorkers & Update Nursing Home Reimbursement #NursingHomeSOS #Hochul #SupportOurSeniors

The Coalition to Transform Advanced Care (C-TAC) (which INELDA is a member of) recently made recommendations to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regarding its proposed 2025 hospice and skilled nursing facility rules which we reported on in our last newsletter. C-TAC requested information on the payment mechanism for high-intensity palliative care services. Additionally, C-TAC called CMS to task on reframing the language around palliative care, as misuse could lead to unjust billing. The recommendations also include measurement tools to evaluate depression, patient satisfaction, the integration of advance care planning, palliative care access, and timely and appropriate hospice referrals, as well as other guidance that advocates directly for the patient. https://bit.ly/3SENHdt

Nursing Home Reliance: The number of older women residing in nursing homes rises sharply with age, reflecting a greater need for assistance. At the same time, and due to generally more limited financial resources, older women are more likely to rely on public insurance for low-income individuals (i.e., Medicaid) to pay for long-term care. In Central Indiana, older women are 1.7 times more likely to reside in a nursing home than men, and more likely to rely on Medicaid for long-term care.
