Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in the “Be the Ultimate Assistant” workshop led by the wonderful 🔥Bonnie Low-Kramen and 🚀 Vickie Sokol Evans, MCT. Stepping into the role of an Executive Assistant has been a significant career pivot for me, and advocating for this training was a key part of my employment negotiation.
I was surprised to discover that specialized training for Executive Assistants is a relatively new concept. The workshop not only deepened my understanding of the EA role and its potential for impact but also connected me with an incredible network of peers. This community is a treasure trove of knowledge and support I’ll rely on for years.
Bonnie’s commitment to fostering a small, close-knit, supportive environment made all the difference, encouraging open and heartfelt discussions. It was a safe space where many of us, myself included, shared emotional stories of our experiences - reminding us all that behind every efficient executive assistant, there’s a deep well of passion and dedication.
It’s no secret that the role of the Executive Assistant often lacks the recognition and respect it deserves, despite being pivotal to an organization’s success. However, trust me, leaders who understand and value our contribution are out there. It’s important for us to seek out these champions and advocate for the training and development we need to thrive at the forefront of business operations.
As Bonnie so rightly says, “Staff Matters.” The right training can not only elevate the individual but can also drive a company’s success to new heights. Here’s to finding and fostering those opportunities for growth and acknowledgment within our field!

If the construction industry is going to attract new talent to the market, its definitely got to get on the ball about outreach and engagement.
This can be done through a variety of ways, one being collaboration with schools and colleges. I remember when I was in middle and high school, they had shop class that I took every semester. I was able to learn some basic skills of carpentry that I still apply today (on a much smaller scale compared to yall).
Second, we as an industry really need to highlight how bad ass it is to work in construction. Who else builds such amazing buildings that we all use every day. Not to mention, the construction industry provides competitive salary, benefits and the success of a job well done at the end of the day.
What are some other ways we can get our younger generation or those looking to transition into the Construction industry interested?
We’ve been doing this Brightside Collective thing for less than a month now, and already? Well, we’ve learnt a lot. Let’s just say that.
Apart from navigating new biz ownership and ALL THE things that go with it, we’ve found that the many businesses we’ve met with and plan to meet with in the new year have people + talent problems outside of recruitment that we ACTUALLY have the power to help solve.
Like getting the right eye balls on ad-copy and then the right people to apply is hard yakka. We know that first hand. But we also have a few good recipes up our sleeve that we reckon can help many businesses change the way they attract the right talent.
Now is most definitely not the time to be talking about all of this. We get it.
But next year?
We’ll be ready and rearing to jump in and help solve things that you never imagined recruiters could fix.
Imagine that!
So let's get something booked in for January...
