Malaysia is still far behind when it comes to measuring impact of cultural heritage against numerous indicators, despite having multiple guidelines and toolkits by UNESCO such as the published Culture2030 indicator. Hope there will be some form of extensive evidence-based research like this one by Historic England conducted nationwide. #malaysianheritage #culturalheritage #impactassessment

Another great addition to the growing evidence base to suppprt the Culture and Heritage Capital Programme. Today Historic England has published new research which shows that the overall wellbeing value for people’s day-to-day encounters with heritage is estimated to be worth £29 billion every year in England. Funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport’s, Culture and Heritage Capital Programme. Historic England’s research examines the Relationship Between Heritage Density and Life Satisfaction. The report demonstrates that, as with the positive impact of green spaces on wellbeing, the very presence of nearby historic places benefits residents’ quality of life, whether or not they participate in heritage activities. The report was authored by the fantastic Thomas Colwill at Historic England, who is part of the wider Culture and Heritage Capital Programme team. Full report and forward from Lord Neil Mendoza can be found here: https://lnkd.in/es5thfwp Also an article in the Times today on the research (this should be the free link) https://lnkd.in/eZTPWenH Further details on the CHC programme can be found on our portal https://lnkd.in/g79Vd4vF

This is a key plank in linking through from heritage - heritage sector, assets and investments into them - to a certain (economic) framing of public value. Next steps: - an overall conceptual framework for doing this - the 'taxonomy' project we're working on with colleagues at Historic England for DCMS/AHRC this current phase of the Cultural and Heritage Capital programme - at scale, precise, granular, consistent, comparable data collection, aggregation and analysis (as opposed to one off research studies) that map the heritage sector and its services (watch this space for an initiative we're working on) through public engagement with cultural heritage (like Audience Answers from The Audience Agency) to indicators of social impact (like others we do this repeatedly in evaluation studies moving to increasing automation and scale)

🍎 A New York Serendipity - Guttman Community College CUNY 🏛️ Hidden in plain sight - I bumped into this gem on my morning walk. Unfortunately, it was closed for the holiday, but the charm and promise it held from the outside piqued my curiosity instantly. A few things I learned and believe are worth celebrating (and I can't wait to explore them more on my next visit): 1️⃣ Beyond Books: GCC is redefining learning and becoming a testament to education evolving with the times. 🚀📚 2️⃣ Community at its Core: GCC is all about connections and entwined with the NYC heartbeat. 🤝🌇 3️⃣ Diversity as the Foundation: GCC is preparing changemakers for the world as it is, not just graduates. 🌍💡 4️⃣. Green Today, Greener Tomorrow: Sustainability isn’t a buzzword at GCC; it's a responsibility. Gutman’s green initiatives are lessons in action, not just intention. 🌿🌏 5️⃣. A Cultural Mosaic: Walk into GCC, walk into the world. A microcosm of cultures, each adding to a symphony of perspectives. 🎶🌐 Can't wait to go back! Exciting insights from the Early Childhood Australia Conference in Brisbane! Our operations team had the fantastic opportunity to attend this year’s conference, where they engaged with thought leaders and peers in our field. One of the standout sessions focused on understanding the escalation and de-escalation stages during challenging behaviour. This topic resonated deeply with us as we constantly strive to enhance our approaches in managing behaviour and fostering positive interactions. Key takeaways included: • Recognising Triggers: Identifying early signs of escalation can help proactive intervention • Effective Communication: Clear, empathetic communication is crucial in both escalating and de-escalating situations. • Creating safe spaces: Ensuring an environment where children feel heard and respected can significantly reduce the likelihood of challenging behaviour. As we implement these strategies within our operations, we’re excited about the positive impact it will have on our team dynamics and family relationships. We look forward to continuing these important conversations and applying what we've learned. #ECUConference #ProfessionalDevelopment #ChallengingBehaviour #TeamGrowth #OperationsExcellence

I think this research is really important. Many people see heritage as a blocker, preventing change and being a waste. More and more research is showing how people value heritage and the positive impacts it has on health and well being. We live in a society that looks at costs, and this research shows the positive value of heritage in monetary terms. Can we please stop thinking as an late added extra and include it as a main player? https://lnkd.in/eHKH3g42
