🔔 Help spread the word about the family medicine crisis in Canada! Write an article for Canadian Family Physician's upcoming special edition on this topic. Canadian Family Physician (CFP) is developing a themed issue focused on research to help navigate the current crisis in family medicine and primary care. Scheduled for publication in spring 2025, the issue will show how research helps identify and quantify pressure points, and features evidence-based solutions to support family practice and primary care in Canada. This edition will increase the visibility of family medicine-led studies, prioritizing findings based on peer-reviewed grant funding, research that covers multiple jurisdictions and/or professions, and commentaries that make extensive use of data and evidence. Submit Statements of Intent via email to Nick Pimlott and Steve Slade (np@cfpc.ca and sslade@cfpc.ca) by Jun. 30, 2024. Clearly state in your email the type of article (commentary or original research) you plan to submit, and provide a short paragraph outlining how your work connects with the crisis in family medicine. Invitations to submit full manuscripts will be sent in July 2024, with an expected initial manuscript submission deadline of early fall 2024. My amazing wife, Bridget, is starting her functional medicine practice very soon! Functional Medicine is a medical practice that focuses on the root cause of symptoms or illnesses by analyzing the body's imbalances with an emphasis on lifestyle improvements and preventative care. My question of the day: how many times a day at your #urgentcare do you have a young adult patient without any significant medical history, and even yet, no significant family history come in with chest pain. The staff obtains an #ECG and it’s “abnormal.” History and physical exam findings do not support a cardiac etiology and lifestyle history is low risk. But you’ve still got the abnormal ECG. So what do you do, refer to the already overrun #emergencydepartment? Can’t refer to cardiology because they don’t accept patients without the full work up and to establish with a PCP is 3-4 months out. I suspect a fair amount of #emergent referrals from urgent care is to due to CYB (cover your butt from litigation) then actual medical science. What’s the solution to this? 📷: ECGlibrary.com
