Training Therapists to Achieve Excellence in Practice | Founder & Clinical Director @integrativepsych.co | Trauma Therapist Educator | Join our JAN Trauma Training Cohort ⬇️ | Book Launch Feb 2025 ✨
I often get asked, "Esther, how deep am I supposed to go in therapy?" My answer is this: not that deep. We don't want to assume your client's wounds are buried under years of repressed experiences. We don't want to risk hitting a nerve and causing your client to leave the session more wounded than they were when they came in. So drop the shovel for now and step away from the pit. We're not going to keep digging, not when we can try to bring relief to what we see right here and now. Comment down a "😬" if you've struggled with digging too deep before! NEW BLOG: WHAT IS “TRAUMA SYSTEMS THERAPY?” It is difficult to live through trauma, and the way we experience trauma – based on our age, personality, the type of trauma we experienced, and more – means that different people may benefit from different treatment approaches as we try to help them overcome it and move forward. We offer many strategies for addressing trauma here at Flourish Psychology, including EMDR and CBT. We are also able to use an approach known as “trauma systems therapy,” which is not right for all patients but can be very useful when appropriate. >>>Read more of this blog on the Flourish Psychology website: https://lnkd.in/dTMDaDEY . #mentalhealthmatters #trauma #healing #life #flourishpsychologynyc #newyork #nyc #newblog #blog #treatment #therapy #psychology #diagnosis #newyorkcity #mentalhealth #art #arttherapy

Even die-hard proponents of evidence-based psychotherapy (EBP) such as myself acknowledge that it comes with challenges. Of course, there are some patients who are uninterested in EBPs for a variety of reasons. But even motivated and engaged patients don’t always complete treatment or gain significant benefit. Research has long focused on how we can improve outcomes and completion rates for “non responders” and “dropouts.” Read the full blog, "Practically Speaking: Behind the Episode: Massed Treatments for PTSD - The Quickest Way Through the Fog?" by Kevin Holloway. https://lnkd.in/eXP3jnTR
