“But mouse models are cheaper” A frequently heard argument. Not even to start mentioning the lack of translatability to humans and general ethical considerations in line with the need to replace animal testing overall, but what about other species? Non-human primates are still being used for a variety of preclinical safety testing. However, the translatability is more than often faulty again, the experiments are much more expensive & time consuming. So even if you want to put all the ethical considerations aside, there is also a financial impact when relying on non-human primates in testing for more complex drugs such as biopharmaceuticals or LNPs. #drugdiscovery #3Rs #preclinical
