⚠ New post-Brexit border checks are coming into force today! ⚡ The new regulations will affect the import of animal and plant products, including Polish meat (chicken, turkey, fish, and ham), which represents 8.6 percent of all goods imported by Britain from Poland. Agnieszka Kisielewska is quoted by the Times – our expert agrees that the border checks will help increase the phytosanitary security level. She raises concerns however around the communications campaign (or the lack of it) in advance of the new regulations coming into force. Insufficient information shared with entrepreneurs may translate into their unpreparedness to operate under the new regime. 🔸 What will the new UK border checks mechanism consist of? 🔸 What disruption in supply chains are they likely to cause? 🔸 Who will be impacted the most by the new regulations? Importers preparing for the new border controls on plant and animal products from the EU, which are being phased in from this Wednesday, are still in the dark on what they will be charged for using government run border control posts. We talk to William Bain of the British Chambers of Commerce and Marco Forgione MIEx, director general of The Institute of Export & International Trade. Expect more updates from Cabinet Office and Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs in the coming days... including to move more EU grown fruit and vegetables into the low risk or deregulated categories, which should help British importers including supermarkets. #trade #brexit #EU #logistics #foodanddrink

Starting April 30, 2024, new import controls will be in place. If you're bringing in medium-risk animal products, plants, plant products, or high-risk food and feed from the EU/EFTA, be prepared for documentary and physical checks. Remember to ensure your goods arrive at designated Border Control Posts (BCPs) or Control Points (CPs) and be ready for inspections there. Additionally, changes are coming for imports from non-EU/EFTA countries, so stay informed and direct urgent queries to your Port Health Authority (PHA). Don't forget about the common user charge for certain imports entering or transiting through Great Britain—make sure you're aware of these changes to avoid any surprises! Brexit is like adding fuel to the fire in Northern Ireland. Before the UK leaves the EU, trade between Great Britain, Northern Ireland and Ireland will still be able to flow normally. After the UK leaves the EU, how to solve the flow of goods within Northern Ireland has become an important issue. Establishing customs at the border between Northern Ireland and Ireland or setting up customs at the seaport from Northern Ireland to the British island will intensify local conflicts. However, the ongoing legislation is slowly improving the situation. In addition to opening a green channel for goods sold from the United Kingdom to Northern Ireland, the "not for EU" label system, which was originally only implemented in Northern Ireland, will be promoted in the future. to other parts of the UK.
