A project doesn't have to be large in size or budget to be impactful. Check out my colleague's post about a recent special project we completed. 😍 🖼 🎨 #community #impact #education #architecture #design
I'm excited to share the amazing transformation of Kradwell School's art room! Kradwell School, located on the Aurora Psychiatric Hospital campus, serves students in grades 8-12 who face various learning challenges. Kradwell had outgrown their existing art room, which also required them to house their kiln and pottery wheel in the basement. The challenge was to find a large enough space with clear sightlines that would help address safety concerns. Originally planned for an addition off of the current art room, our solution renovated a space on the second floor. This new space offers the essential clear sightlines, is triple the size of the original art room, is filled with natural light, and also provided budget and schedule savings. Art has always been a core part of Kradwell's teaching approach, and it was a joy to see the students' excitement as we brought their vision to life. Making the project even more special is that it was fully funded by generous private donations, a testament to the community’s support for Kradwell and its mission. Congratulations to Kradwell School! I couldn't be prouder to be a part of such a meaningful project and can't wait to see the students thrive in this amazing new space. In addition to my pride in Vietnamese heritage, as an architect, I find it fascinating that in a rapidly urbanising world, where many cities are becoming more fragmented and isolated, the lively streetscape of our Vietnamese cities stands as a valuable reminder of the importance of community and human connection. Read Architecture Today's latest issue and discover why #HoChiMinhCity is #MyKindofTown. MCW architects

Congrats to the Better Block Foundation for bringing this critical topic to our attention. 😥 Loneliness is a persistent issue in modern society. 💧 Water features hold a unique potential to soothe the soul and create serene spaces where individuals can find solace amidst the hustle and bustle of city life. 🌿 By integrating water features into our urban environments, we can transform public spaces into inviting sanctuaries that encourage interaction and foster a sense of belonging. 🏙️ From tranquil fountains in bustling plazas to captivating water murals adorning city walls to interactive and visitable water features, these design elements possess a unique ability to uplift spirits and alleviate the pervasive feelings of isolation. 🌐 It is imperative that we RETHINK cities as vibrant, engaging, and interconnected communities where the mere presence of water features can act as a catalyst for meaningful connections, combating Loneliness. #Rethink #waterfeatures #urbanspaces #landscape
“A big part of our work is simply, how do you have these moments where people can go from being strangers to being neighbors?” says Better Block Executive Director, Krista Nightengale. We had the opportunity to talk with Bloomberg CityLab about the upcoming Creating Connections design competition at Thanks-Giving Square this summer.
