What's the impact when antibiotics go down the drain? A recently published paper describes the use of NCIMB's multispecies bioassay LumiMARA in a study of the ecotoxicity of an antibiotic and its photodegradation products. The results also illustrate the value of LumiMARA over and above bioassays comprised of a single strain of Aliivibrio fischeri. LumiMARA includes 11 different strains of luminescent marine and freshwater bacteria, including two strains of A. fischeri, in one test.
