Marketing and Communications Leader in Senior Living | Digital and Traditional Marketing | Public Relations and Communications
It was my sincere pleasure to judge this year’s Mature Media Awards, which were announced Monday. Congratulations to all of this year’s winners! I’m terribly proud that our marketing team at Westminster won two Merit Awards this year, for some of our creative work. (I promise I didn’t judge any of our work!) A job very well done to Chris Ware, Natalie Rooney and Justin Hall! The contest received thousands of entries from a variety of fields, all focused on seniors. I saw some amazing work! A few of my observations on this year’s winning entries: 1. It’s a cliche, but every entry deserved an award. The competition was fierce this year. 2. The gold-winning campaigns had to be absolutely spectacular to stand out. They were well thought out, cohesive in their visuals and content, and creatively written without being a bit too clever. 3. Very often the best entries came from totally unexpected places: A new in-house team, an agency whose work I hadn’t seen before, all talented names I expect to see more of. It’s so interesting how the most creative ideas are the least expected! 4. It is incredibly hard to stand out in this field. If you want to break through, whether in a contest or in congested mailboxes, you have to be totally different! Too many entries, even the very good ones, looked like all the others. But the best entries looked like nothing I’d seen before. Congratulations again to the more than 250 award winners in this year’s Mature Media Awards! Let’s Practice Some Quick Media Literacy When new ads recycle old ones that didn’t work We must see the patterns in media when interacting with corporate propaganda, also called advertising. This quick article covers a recycled approach I spotted mostly because I was born in nineteen-eighty-none-of-your-business. This article is interactive because interaction with media teaches us how it is created, distributed, and consumed and the role we humans play in this. Continue here: https://lnkd.in/egdjYYuH
