Does Broad PA Scope of Practice Impact Patient Safety & Malpractice? - Patient Engagement HIT Title: Does Broad PA Scope of Practice Impact Patient Safety & Malpractice? #Introduction Physician assistants (PAs) play a crucial role in healthcare delivery, but the scope of their practice varies from state to state. This variability raises concerns about patient safety and malpractice. #Scope of Practice The scope of practice for PAs includes diagnosing, treating, and prescribing medication under physician supervision. However, the extent of this supervision varies, impacting patient care. #Patient Safety Expanding the scope of practice for PAs can improve access to care but may also lead to concerns about patient safety. Proper training and supervision are essential to ensure high-quality care. #Malpractice Malpractice claims involving PAs are on the rise, highlighting ai.mediformatica.com #physician #medical #study #patientsafety #physicians #safety #regulation #advanced #engagement #physicianaistant #provider #digitalhealth #healthit #healthtech #healthcaretechnology @MediFormatica (https://buff.ly/3OQZUtI)

Immediate Past President of the Ohio Association of Physician Assistants and Lead Urgent Care & Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant
More of a reason to advocate for the removal of outdated and restrictive PA practice laws in Ohio! Findings from a recent study published in the Journal of Medical Regulation examined 10 years of data to explore the impact of permissive versus restrictive laws on physician assistant (PA) practice. Surprisingly, no significant differences were found in medical malpractice payment reports between states with different PA scope of practice laws. These results suggest that removing barriers to PA practice doesn't compromise patient safety and can improve access to high-quality care. Join OAPA now to continue our efforts to practice at the top of our license and provide high quality healthcare access for all Ohioans! #OhioPAs #PatientAccess https://lnkd.in/gMyUzXh6

"Auditors are looking at the issue of problems addressed in the encounter in the E&M billing and coding world today with a much more jaded eye.... [Podiatric surgeons] must document just how that impact affects what we decide to do in our treatment plans, thus leading us to selecting the proper level of service provided." https://lnkd.in/ewGjR6bD

I've seen so many articles like this lately. I wonder if we've reached peak physician employment and will start to see the pendulum swinging more towards independent models again? With stats like: "60% of physicians said non-physician ownership of practices results in a lower quality of patient care," one thing is clear to me. Our healthcare system needs to empower physicians to offer higher quality care by easing administrative burdens and realigning incentives towards quality. https://lnkd.in/gYWvUpaX

Documentation of ED Encounters To expand my depth and breadth of knowledge in Emergency Department documentation piece put out by the Clerkship Directors in Emergency Medicine. Clinical Documentation Integrity can be defined as physician documentation that best communicates a patient's clinical story, paints an accurate picture of the patient's clinical needs, clearly demonstrates the clinical needs of the patient, captures the physician's work performed to meet the patient's clinical needs, and lastly includes clinically supported diagnoses with appropriate clinical specificity accompanied by the physician's expression of his/her clinical judgment and medical decision making. I am aware of some hospitals starting an outpatient CDI program where the focus is on diagnosis capture as the starting point to hospital admission. I am fully supportive of Outpatient CDI in the ED provided the focus truly is upon improving physician documentation in support of quality care, the need for potential hospital admission, establishment of medical necessity for hospitalization, and optimal compliant coding and reimbursement. All CDI will do well to read this article on ED documentation and understand the processes and complexity of documentation in the ED. #EDdocumentation, #betterdocumentation, #qualitycarequalitydocumentation, #clinicaljudgement, #medicaldecisionmaking https://lnkd.in/eeQV-hei

This excellent article highlights the confusion, utility, costs and risks of incorrect naming, regulation and deployment of Physician's Assistant (misnamed Physician Associate). It will be up to the Upper House to sort this out. N.B. This is my personal view on the matter. https://lnkd.in/eaTgbjuh
