World Sepsis Day, observed on **September 13th**, aims to raise awareness about sepsis, a life-threatening condition that occurs when the body's response to infection causes widespread inflammation, leading to organ failure and death if not treated promptly. This day emphasizes the importance of early recognition and treatment of sepsis, which can significantly improve survival rates. It also highlights the global burden of sepsis, affecting millions of people each year, particularly in low-resource settings. By promoting education and awareness, World Sepsis Day encourages healthcare professionals, policymakers, and the public to take action in preventing, identifying, and managing sepsis to save lives. Today is World Sepsis Day, an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against sepsis. Sepsis is a time-critical medical emergency that arises when the body’s response to an infection damages its own tissues and organs. It can lead to shock, failure of multiple organs, and death if not recognised early and not treated promptly. Across the world, sepsis affects between 47 and 50 million people every year and at least 11 million people die – one death every 2.8 seconds. Cassie Gilbert and Yasmin Sungkar – Step on Sepsis Project Coordinators at Northern Health, said many of those who do survive sepsis can face lifelong consequences which can impact their day-to-day functioning. “To improve outcomes, community awareness of signs and symptoms, together with time-critical recognition and appropriate healthcare management, is essential in reducing morbidity and mortality associated with sepsis,” they said. September is World Sepsis Month, a chance to improve awareness of this life-threatening condition. Sepsis affects almost 50 million people worldwide each year and accounts for 11 million deaths annually worldwide. Laboratory professionals are the “guardians of diagnosis,” using their specialised skills and technologies to identify the presence of infection within the body, enabling healthcare providers to detect and monitor its progression. Read this article to learn how crucial early diagnosis of sepsis is, and how laboratories enable this. https://lnkd.in/esN4cYD4 #Sepsis #ValueofDiagnostics

Did you know that nearly half (47.5%) of sepsis patients also develop acute kidney injury? This startling statistic underscores the critical link between these two serious medical conditions. Sepsis, a life-threatening response to infection, can rapidly lead to organ dysfunction - including acute kidney injury. Early recognition and targeted interventions are key to improving outcomes for patients facing this dangerous complication. Healthcare professionals must remain vigilant in monitoring for signs of both sepsis and kidney injury, and act quickly to implement appropriate treatment strategies. By understanding this strong association, we can work to mitigate the devastating effects of these intertwined conditions. Let's spread awareness and advocate for improved sepsis and kidney injury management protocols. Together, we can save lives. #Sepsis #KidneyInjury #HealthStats #MedicalResearch #PatientCare

Translating genomics innovation into clinical application - MISK 2030 Leader. Healthcare Leader and Patient Safety Expert
🌍 Today, on World Sepsis Day, we are reminded of the silent killer that claims more than 11 million lives each year—more than cancer and heart attacks combined. Sepsis is a preventable condition, yet it remains a major threat in healthcare globally. 🚨 Sepsis does not discriminate. It can affect anyone, anywhere, and at any time. It is a medical emergency that arises when the body's response to infection causes injury to its tissues and organs. And yet, with timely recognition, early intervention, and proper management, sepsis is entirely preventable. 🛑 THE CHALLENGE IS CLEAR: We must ACT FAST. This means raising awareness, promoting early diagnosis, enhancing patient safety protocols, and prioritizing education for healthcare workers and the public alike. The cost of inaction is too high. We cannot afford to lose more lives to this condition. Let's unite to ensure that sepsis is recognized, treated, and, ultimately, prevented. Together, we can make a difference. Let’s save lives. #WorldSepsisDay #PatientSafety #SepsisAwareness #Healthcare #SaveLives Global Sepsis Alliance
